Historia
Viewed as too libelous to print in England until 1968, the title essay in this collection reveals the abuse Orwell experienced as a child at an expensive and snobbish boarding school and offers insights into his lifelong concern for the oppressed. "Why I Write" describes Orwell's sense of political purpose, and the classic essay "Politics and the English Language" insists on clarity and precision in communication in order to avoid the Newspeak later described in 1984.

Skipping Problems
Revisado: 09-27-20
This is a Frederick Davidson performance, and it is as outstanding as you might suspect. The trouble lies in the digitization of the old audiobook and the occasionally choppy result. It is as if scratched CDs were playing on the Audible app. This quality problem is inconsistent, but noticeable on every track.

Historia
Gibbs has become a popular blogger and frequent speaker at education conferences. In this series of frank reflections on an unlikely career, Gibbs contemplates what it means to be a good teacher, how great books can change lives (and how one particular book, The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius, changed his), and why effective education is primarily concerned with the acquisition of virtue....How to Be Unlucky presents a one-of-a-kind case for ancient ways of thinking about teaching in our contemporary world.

A Must Read for Christian Educators
Revisado: 05-04-19
Gibbs' reflections find inspiration in the teaching of medieval literature to high schoolers, but his applications are as wide-ranging as a systematic theology. This witty little volume is about cultivating the Christian life in the classroom, and it is an edifying and encouraging read.

Historia
This fascinating audiobook is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins. While most people in the United States today have no British ancestors, they have assimilated regional cultures which were created by British colonists, even while preserving ethnic identities at the same time.

#1 History for American Settlement
Revisado: 08-18-18
This is an outstanding work on Anglo-American cultures. I hope he will write the promised sequels.
