Historia
Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease.

Great information
Revisado: 02-26-24
Likes: Very professionally presented and listenable, well researched and cited, the use of anecdotes and mild humor kept interest, the information presented makes one want to take action immediately
Dislikes: Of all the audiobooks that deal with health issues, this one with all its citations and recommendations really needed an accompanying pdf, I was mildly annoyed to have to repeat parts so I could make notes. The authors were persuasive in mythbusting and breaking the dogma around cholesterol, diet, and heart disease (and attempting to undo the damage Ansel Keys unleashed with his faulty research)-- but -- they seemed to be as dogmatic in cherry picking research regarding body weight, heart disease, and longevity. The authors' weight bias comes through in accepting the "obesity epidemic" and "obesity causing ___" correlations as established facts, not theory, just as the cholesterol/heart disease theory became "fact that everyone knows," that was actually false when put to the test instead of accepted because it sounds right.

Good information, but...
Revisado: 02-19-24
The information was well researched and cited (full studies linked on the author's website). There is almost too much information overload, which makes the book overly long.
The part that was most definitely not enjoyable was the author reading his own work. I powered through because I wanted to hear the material (and did not want to read the very thick print edition). Please read the other reviews of the audiobook - and believe them! - before purchasing.

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Inspirational, Kind of
Revisado: 01-08-23
Marie Kondo is very serious about tidying. Very, very serious. Scarily serious about tidying. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the author's voice to life. I couldn't help but think as I listened to her talk about her life as a child and teenager who was obsessed with putting things in order and tidying-- everybody's things, everywhere, how on earth no one noticed this odd obsession and at least made sure she was ok I'm

Not what I expected
Revisado: 12-20-22
This is the long awaited book hyped on the Whole 30 website. Melissa Hartwig is engaging, as usual; her personal examples were heartfelt and genuine. Of course I am going to give this book another listen, as her work deserves it. However, on this first listen, this book is not what I was expecting - the first part was, definitely, but the last half, maybe third was "how to handle people who think your diet's weird (are hostile, are saboteurs, etc.)" -- a chapter or two drawn out over an entire book. I'm not bashing the book on its own merits, I was a bit disappointed on the first listen.

A relatable Christian woman
Revisado: 07-07-22
I normally don't read books in this genre, but this is not your usual "Christian women's" smarminess. MKB is impulsive, flawed, and totally relatable to the real, everyday, trying-to-survive person.

A Remarkable Woman Shares Her Methods
Revisado: 04-29-22
I admit, even though I'm of the same "vintage," I was not familiar with the author's acting career, videos, or podcasts. I still find it remarkable that she was able to achieve achieve as much physically at an advanced age....And yes, I am interested in how she did it.
That said, this is not so much a "diet" book as a motivational book. Saba is a life coach and personal trainer (who got her certification in her sixties), not a dietitian or physician. Take any dietary advice with a large grain of salt, as some of it is not in line with current practice. I do love the advice on mindset and affirmations.

Historia
Raymond Francis is the scientist people turn to when diets don’t work. His groundbreaking approach treats excess weight for what it really is—a disease caused by malfunctioning cells. As Francis explains, many of the foods we eat every day, especially the “health” and “diet” ones we dutifully buy to lose weight, have the opposite effect. Full of hidden toxins and lacking nutrients, they actually poison your cells and alter your weight-control genes, causing your body to put on the pounds.

There are good ideas there, but...
Revisado: 01-10-22
The science behind obesity and weight gain has advanced. This book remains steadfastly 30 years in the past. The authors sneak some very unorthodox thinking in the mix, like disbelief in the germ theory (bacteria and infectious microorganisms don't make you sick... what?). There is solid advice in there, but you do have to look (listen carefully) for it.
