At the very heart of God is the passionate disposition to be in loving fellowship with you. From the human side of this equation it is meditative prayer that ushers us into this divine-human fellowship. Richard Foster, best-selling author and founder of Renovare, writes these words as one who has experienced what they describe. And in this new book he will beautifully guide you in this transformational way, that you might come to know deeper fellowship with God.

excellent information on meditative prayer
Revisado: 06-22-17
What made the experience of listening to Sanctuary of the Soul the most enjoyable?
the narrator - I thought from the enthusiasm and inflection that the author was narrating!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sanctuary of the Soul?
I just loved how he read it and the advice/information on how to meditate and how we should seek God not the experience of God every time(can't remember exactly how he phrased it)
What does David Cochran Heath bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
like I said, I thought the author was narrating this he was that good
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
talking about the personal experiences in church when the Spirit moved
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this - enough that I started listening to parts of it again where I had bookmarks. I would listen to this one again

The Ignatian goal of "finding God in all things" eans that every part of our lives can lead us to God. The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything shows us how this is possible, with user-friendly examples, humorous stories and anecdotes from the heroic and inspiring lives of Jesuit saints and average priests and brothers, as well as examples from Martin's twenty years as a Jesuit. The traditional wisdom that Jesuits use to help other people in their daily lives is easily applied, but not often explained well to the general public.

good info on spirituality
Revisado: 06-22-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything to be better than the print version?
I prefer print to audio but parts of this I really enjoyed hearing as well especially with the author himself doing the reading
What did you like best about this story?
the author reading it and the information on how to read a passage of scripture and esp the descriptions of people and where they are in the spiritual journey(near the beginning)
Have you listened to any of James Martin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no but I bought some more to listen to later
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
no extreme reaction - my favorite was probably the first half- kinda deep after t hat and I was a little' full' of information I needed to process
Any additional comments?
lot of information in this book- I think I'd have done better if I'd listened to a few chapters and put into practice what I learned then gone back and done another chapter or 2 and spread this out instead of listening to so much back to back

old school romance
Revisado: 06-22-17
Where does The Right Path rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
narrator is terrible with the men's accents which is why I'm rating the performance so low. They're Greek but don't sound good at all.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Morgan- she's a strong, smart woman (speaks 5 languages fluently)
What didn’t you like about Gayle Hendrix’s performance?
I hated the men's voices and how abrupt they were though not being Greek maybe that's how the men sound? The reading speed is nice and the women's voices are ok.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Crime on the coast of Greece
Any additional comments?
I bought this audiobook because the book itself is one of my old favorites from a long time ago. The hero is very macho take-charge which was common back in the day

Escape the enemy's deadly trap! The Bait of Satan exposes one of the most deceptive snares Satan uses to get believers out of the will of God - offense. Most people who are ensnared by the bait of Satan don’t even realize it. Don’t be fooled! You will encounter offense, and it’s up to you how it will affect your relationship with God. Your response will determine your future. If offense is handled correctly, you will become stronger rather than bitter. John Bevere shows you how to stay free from offense and escape the victim mentality.

Revisado: 06-22-17
Would you listen to Bait of Satan again? Why?
maybe - I enjoyed listening while driving but have other good audiobooks lined up. If I hadn't liked it I wouldn't have continued with it so not listening to it again wouldn't be for any negative reason.
What other book might you compare Bait of Satan to and why?
not sure - but best I can remember this guy is following spiritual authority if you're familiar with that- not letting offense get in and waiting on God to reveal the faults of someone 'over' you.
Which character – as performed by John Bevere – was your favorite?
I don't recall any characters
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes I think I'd have liked to listen to it in one sitting and may try that another time
Any additional comments?
overall I liked this book- not sure how practical/useful it was for me since I'm not in leadership but he had some good points about taking offense/unforgiveness/authority.

What's So Amazing About Grace?

Historia
Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else - for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy?

some parts meh other parts make it worth getting
Revisado: 04-10-17
Would you consider the audio edition of What's So Amazing About Grace? to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version but I found myself wishing I could skim (print would probably be better) and other parts the inflection and hearing it made it where I actually went back several times to listen to particular points again. a lot of this is with stories and I prefer hearing stories - when it comes to taking notes I prefer a book
What was one of the most memorable moments of What's So Amazing About Grace??
talking about cheap grace- about to sin and knowing it is a sin but wanting to know if God would forgive and Yancey telling them God will forgive but you may not even want the forgiveness when you make that choice. really struck home with me abusing God's grace
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I thought the narrator's voice was a bit boring but I got used to it- he read slowly and sometimes seemed to speed up so I had to go back to listen again. reading in a book I would have stopped to think but didtn' have the pause button handy
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
stop go stop go
Any additional comments?
I found this book waxed a little political esp about the clintons being mistreated by christians. I felt it took on a liberal political bent that turned me off to the point I stopped then later went back to listen to part of it again so as not to leave off everything he was saying. also one earlier chapter on forgiveness mentioned a horrible scene from holocaust time and unforgiveness. I didnt' like that image in my head

Historia
Fifteen-hundred years ago, St. Benedict established a system of ora et labora prayer and work that monastics still follow today. Central to this prayerful integration of body and spirit is psalmody, or chanting the psalms. On Singing the Psalms, Episcopal priest Cynthia Bourgeault shows how the psalms can awaken rich spiritual and psychological insights accessible to you today, whatever your level of vocal skill or theological understanding.

I agree with another reviewer in that a pdf download of the Psalms they were singing would have made this so much better. She mentions several times 'your book' but there's no book. a lot was repetitious so I could pick up the words but would have been nice to have had a book

In our culture, the “good life” means getting more. This series of retreat talks challenges listeners to subtract--to release whatever hinders us from siding with the cosmic Christ, whether that be in our inner world or our outer world. Father Rohr offers a daring vision which calls us to surrender, to liberation, to making room for real freedom.

What made the experience of listening to Letting Go the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed hearing the author's voice
What was one of the most memorable moments of Letting Go?
nothing stands out as particularly memorable- all was pretty deep thinking for me
Have you listened to any of Richard Rohr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no - this is my first but I bought most of his. I did start a 2nd one of his that he narrates but reads instead of being a speech like this one- in this one he ends sentences with 'huh' or a sound like that quite a bit. when reading an actual book he doesn't seem to do this.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
deep thinking
Any additional comments?
my main aggravation with this was the chaptering- there were about 9 'talk's but the chaptering didn't reflect the beginning/end of each - chapter 1 might have 5 min of the 2nd talk and the the 2nd talk would end and the 3rd talk start with 10 min- seems they could have divided it one chapter per topic.

What did you love best about The Pursuit of God?
I enjoyed the topic and shorter chapters (about 20-30 min per section) and the prayers at the end
Who was your favorite character and why?
there were no characters
What does Mark Moseley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I had to slow down to 0.9 x to follow - seemed a bit fast for the subject matter. he does inflect and emphasize certain sections
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd been able to sit undisturbed to listen all at once instead of listening while driving and working
Any additional comments?
I did have to slow this one to 0.9x speed
