While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

Revisado: 09-22-24
I listened to the first 3 books years ago and wanted to finish this series when the box set came out. Not the biggest fan of the author but Greyson and crew really were a solid storyline I had to complete.
While I think there is an amazing message here that you never really know what to prep for and what could happen book 4 total seems like an afterthought that simply belongs with another series. Akers tries to tie it together but fires, hostages, gangs out of nowhere, and crazy cults totally ruin the rest of the storyline.
The narration is, as always sensational with Keven reading the books, this helps but doesn't save it.
Sad ending, in more ways than one, to what could have been a really good series.

The Mad Mick’s new employer, Walter Lightspeed, has promised great things for America. Lightspeed cleared the way for his rise to power by skimming the dead weight off government, assassinating a legion of career politicians, lobbyists, and agency heads. Now only one barrier remains between him and the presidency—wrangling the support of the military. If he lives that long. Conor and Ricardo have their concerns about Lightspeed, but that’s not enough to make them surrender their lucrative contract work with him.

Not even sure what to say...
Revisado: 09-27-22
The Mad Mick series grew on me more and more. It started as a side story and grew into the main course, based on an American EMP. I really grew fond of most of the characters, aside from Barb.
Franklin has turned into a great storyteller because this is no longer a post-apolocyptic series this is what I would consider a good story of private militaries, OGA's and a government that is mimicking our daily.
I hope there is more but this could/would be a good ending point.
Kevin does an amazing job as usual in bringing this to life.

A scary real work of fiction.
Revisado: 11-29-21
I was not sure what I was getting into. There seem to be many who want to make this about the former President and gleam the light of hatred they have/had towards him.
**Note to those people, this is a work of fiction**
If you pay any attention to the current situation you can see some of the similarities and yet the vast differences between reality and fiction in this book.
I have a hard time believing a few incidents in this book and won't get into the spoilers but the issue with the court that arose and the way our "allies" turned their back on us all at the same time seems a bit far fetched. The CANZUK nations being split and not working with each other is a head-scratcher and Canada doing what they did would not sit well.
Where is the U.S.'s intelligence? Where are the allies? Why would the world look to remove $20T out of the economy even for a few months? Why would the world think that the plan they put in place would be successful?
Lots of questions to be asked but all in all the book is good if not frightening. The story tries to explain the above questions but still seems far-fetched.

Well, it seems this won't be a conclusion. Which is a good thing. Starting this book felt like I was hanging out with old friends that I really missed.
Jim is a solid anti-hero and a character to strive to be. I can't wait to see where this goes in the future.

Good conclusion
Revisado: 11-09-21
For a trilogy, this was a quick series that remained fast pasted. The characters were very likeable and there was almost a bond with some.
The good: A departure from typical prepper fiction. This was more "sci-fi" and eye-opening than it was SHTF fiction. That's a good thing. It added a bit of reality that we've been seeing and some outlandish issues I guess we will face with AI and Quantum computers.
The bad: Really? A dream sequence? Felt like this was an afterthought to add to the length of the book. The ending felt a bit forced and the "negotiation" with the contractor that took place was a bad add-in.
Overall, Ryan's writings are a departure from some of the more amateur authors in the prepper world. I like his style, I like his realness that is put forward and keeps content coming in a fresh and interesting way.

Terrible attempt at the conclusion of this series
Revisado: 02-08-21
This was a "short story" not a novel. I picked this up to see the LONG awaited completion to a pretty solid character base, but was let down and disappointed in not only the time it took for this short story to come out but the overall length and the direction this book series went.
Besides for Kevin Peirce's narration, there is very little to like about this. I can't recommend this book.

Simply amazing...
Revisado: 12-18-20
Before I get into reviewing this book, I want to take a moment to explain just how influential RC Bray was in playing the crucial parts of this book. I have listened to him before but I got to say he really brought the characters to life and gave them a soul. Mr. Bray allowed them to come to life. Excellent job.
Now for the series (I don't want to get into each book because I bought the complete series).
I am a Navy vet, I'm a history buff and a prideful American who spent time in the pacific and south pacific. I was a bit put off in hearing this was fictitious with the writer's liberties taken when I started listening. I guess I prejudged and boy was I wrong.
This series hit it out of the park from the get-go. From the lingo, the hazing, the sounds, sights and smells coming through on the pages. The guys, the relationships, and the "clowns" all showed through just like what happened in the Navy.
The combat and scenarios were perfectly written. They also offered a visceral response in me while listening to the happens of the attacks and defenses of the war. It was all real and lifelike.
I really grew fond of the characters and the disputes they come to have. This made the series and made me keep going back. I literally was on the edge of my seat at times in dealing with the way they handled each other vs the enemy at hand.
I highly recommend this series and would love any history buff or Navy fan to read/listen to this series.
Well done!

Historia
ISIS delivered a devastating attack, crippling not just one city, as on 9-11, but the entire country. The government, while disbursing critical supplies, decided that this was an excellent time to consolidate power, and for one senator, the chance to lock in the presidency. An opportunity to bring the right-wing, anti-federal-government gun fanatics to heel. The government moved quickly to disarm the populace, using control of food and fuel as weapons, but things did not go quite as expected.

Eye opening.
Revisado: 12-09-20
I will say, this is not a slow read, it is not a fun read and if you love this country, it's a hard read. To imagine that much destruction taking place is mind-boggling but something that could happen.
I honestly think, to drop a tad or reality in on this book, in war, the enemy gets a say and no plan survives first contact. So with that said, while this "could" happen. Pulling off this many likely events with the bumbling crew probably wouldn't be as successful as it was. Mistakes happen and Mr. Murphy shows his head far too often when trying to attempt all the things that were done in book 1. I mean, yes the FBI did stop one city from getting hit and the cop did outguess the sniper post but 3 subpar in intellect, training, and maturity managed to pull off this devastation is a tad far-fetched.
But it is a book, it is written to show how our guard is down and how much evil and hatred this nation has coming at it, and after this summer we see this both internally and externally as well. At the very least, this should be a wake-up call.
It is also unlike any other doomsday book I've read.
A note about the narration, Horton grows on you, he is unique and does a myriad of voices well. By the end of the book, I almost enjoyed the performance.

Maybe the best Horton book ever.
Revisado: 12-09-20
Ok, so my headline doesn't leave much room for critique and shows my cards before I start to leave a review. Franklin did an amazing job bringing this series back to life and in a grand way.
This was the 2nd post-apocalyptical series I read and a standard I hold reading or listening to with others attempts at prepper books. It was just that good. But moving Mad Mick forward and Locker Nine, this series got left behind. Bringing Jim, Lloyd and the crew back at this time and hearing Kevin's voice was like visiting old friends and a needed read.
We pick up with Jim and his valley still having issues after the last book's main point. Jim is still not a welcome face and feels the burden of leadership and being wanted.
Jim wants to get away from life, to let the heat die down, and to clear his head. After what we are all suffering with during COVID lockdowns and this summer filled with riots and looting, who would want to do that. His best friend and the most Anti-Jim member of his crew decides to go with him on his getaway.
This is where the magic kicks in, the storytelling Franklin shows us, or better yet puts into words for us, the feelings each of us has right now. We just want to be left alone, to not deal with big government, and be self-sufficient. Throw in the leeches, music, and banter and you have a classic.
I can't rate this book high enough. I really enjoyed it and don't really mind seeing 3 or 4 more in this series now.

This is a different twist on a SHTF story. Written From the single mother perspective. It lays out the way the collapse could happen. At the time of the review , these events are literally taking place in this nation. The book is refreshing yet scary because we are seeing that this is almost a playbook of how this will unfold. I also really like performer who did a really good job of nailing context and emotion.
