Lovely story about acceptance in families
Revisado: 08-11-24
Only Danielle Steel can make a messy family seem normal! I love how the mother grew right along with her children.

Great read!

What a terrifically written book. I remained sad yet hopeful and I could actually feel the sadness of the main character through every challenge. A beautiful example of human will. Thank you!
Beautifully narrated!

Someone did a great thing! This book has a message that is so vital for our world today. It took a minute to accept the story line as it was performed but quickly moved into the good stuff!

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Historia
In his international bestseller, The Happiness Advantage, Harvard-trained researcher Shawn Achor described why happiness is the precursor to greater success. Before Happiness is about what comes before both. Because before we can be happy or successful, we need to first develop the ability to see that positive change is possible. Only once we learn to see the world through a more positive lens can we summon all our motivation, emotion, and intelligence to achieve our personal and professional goals.

WORST NARRATION
Revisado: 05-27-22
Just buy the book and read it. The content is great. Narration is NOT tolerable. I tried to return it but listened too long I suppose. I held on for as long as I could! I’ll be more aware of Audible’s strict/unfair guidelines from this point forward.
He has other books that he narrates himself.

Historia
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

Seriously? You took a great story to trash-land!
Revisado: 07-31-20
This book started out great. Storyline was good. Interesting facts about how alcohol affects women’s’ health (although some not correct). I was enjoying this very much until the author took the book into a political rant directed at the president. So dreadfully tired of hearing this! And what a tired topic! Can’t you celebrate feminism in any other way? You have to target political leaders? Feminism suffers each and every time a woman uses Trump as an excuse. It is infuriating and so trite. We are not weak! Thanks for making it seem like women took major steps back when one person took office. Really? Does one man hold that much power over a nation of women? No. He does not. Get a clue! Feminism as a movement and concept is far more important than any political leader. I don’t even care what political party you do or do not support. I didn’t buy the book to read about your political views. BORING! Try again. You had something good and sent it to the trash bin.
Thanks Audible for zero help with my refund. At least you took it out of my library!
