Historia
The child of a married Japanese aristocrat and her African American GI lover, Nori is an outsider from birth. Poorly written. Readers reading the parts of British characters lacked the proper accents.

Not worth listening to or reading. Tedious. Maybe after her studies and maturity the author will improve

Historia
For thousands of years, the prophet Moses was regarded as the sole author of the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch. According to tradition, Moses was divinely directed to write down foundational events in the history of the world: the creation of humans, the worldwide flood, the laws as they were handed down at Mt. Sinai, and the cycle of Israel’s enslavement and liberation from Egypt. However, these stories—and their frequent discrepancies—provoke questions.

A clear synthesis of the hypothesis and support of the different voices (authors) of the Bible.
Revisado: 02-16-25
Well written and brings an enhancement of appreciation of the Bible as a spiritual text.
The reader on Audible is very poor with pronunciations not in keeping with the Hebrew. Better to read in a written text format.

Amazing telling
Revisado: 07-20-24
McBride brings to life John Brown and his cause to free the slaves with a passion. A must read for all of us in the continuing struggle for equality and freedom for all. At the same time this is a coming of age tale, a story of finding self with compassion for our weaknesses in our own searches.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

More than historical fiction
Revisado: 12-31-22
Well written story that draws you in. What I appreciated was that the author did not shy away from the challenging issues of race and perspective from both the time period before and after the civil war, and today.

Historia
It is the day of her brother’s wedding, and our narrator is still struggling with her wedding toast. Despite a recent fracture between them, Danny has asked her to give a speech, and she doesn’t know where to begin, how to put words to their kind of love. She was nine years old when she traveled with her parents to Thailand to meet her brother, age three. They grew up together like any other siblings, and shared a bucolic childhood in Northern California. Yet when she holds their story up to the light, it refracts in ways she doesn’t expect.

the process
Revisado: 08-22-21
This book feels most real when describing the adoption process and IVF process. It is a coming to terms of an older sister with her adopted brother, as they move through adulthood. It would have felt more complete if we had heard other voices and more true ro recognize that the behaviors attributed to her adoptive brother could have just as easily manifest in a blood sibling.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. This is a story built on memories, and it brought back so many for me. It is a beautiful read. The characters' lives challenge the concept of destiny, ranking professions over people, living spaces, and the meaning of family. of all the places in the house, you will want to sit in the window seat to read this book.

Historia
On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual false alarm. As one fireman recounted later, “Once that first stack got going, it was good-bye, Charlie.” The fire was disastrous: It reached 2,000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed 400,000 books and damaged 700,000 more.
