Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Historia
Welcome to the coziest, vampire-owned tea room in Bath! It’s steeped in magic and mystery. You’re supposed to support your guy, right? Even if it means moving away from the watery source of your witchy magic and suffering through five years of writer's block? Minnie Wells thought so, until her soon-to-be-ex left her high and dry for another woman. Now, she’s back in Bath, with the magic of the town’s enchanted springs flowing through her veins, ready to explore her newbie witch powers and pen her novel. Bath inspired her favorite writer Jane Austen, after all.

In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

The voice acting was superb. The writing was delightful.

I so appreciate this author. She has well-rounded characters and does a delightful job of taking the time to fully developing the relationships between her main characters, who so often would not normally seem to be compatible, but are none-the-less drawn to each other for their personalities and values rather than their bulging biceps and burgeoning bosoms. I thought the narrator did a great job.

Not the Author for Me
Revisado: 04-05-19
I struggled to finish this book, but I did. If you like your main man to have anger control issues and chauvanistic tendancies, enjoy your main woman to be as gorgeous and popular as a movie-star and make poor decisions, like Jews and Muslims to be the bad guys, and don't mind reading an author who doesn't have great grammar or vocabulary,* then go for it. I'm sure there are tons of folks out there who wouldn't be bothered by these things and instead just enjoy the adventure romance. I'm just not one of them, so this will be the last book I listen to by this author. The narrator wasn't bad and did a credible job of trying to give different characters different voices.
*For example: doesn't know the definition of "literally," uses "could care less" when it should be "couldn't care less," doesn't know what a pilaster is.

Great book!
Revisado: 01-29-19
I really enjoyed this book and its non-traditional look at heroes and villains. The narrator was excellent. Terrific voice acting. However, this book had 1st person writing from six different characters. While the writing made it so it didn’t take long to figure out that a new person was talking and who was whom, a bit more variation by the narrator for each character’s voices would have been nice. Another helpful device might have been some sort of audio queue when a new chapter started to warn the reader that a different character might be talking.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

I adored this book. But I will say that if you haven’t read the first two of Pat Rothfuss’s books this one might be a bit too strange to dance with tiny joyful feet into your mind and leave you smiling touched. It is not a normal book. It is a most perfect thing.
