Historia
Who am I? Who were these people who made me who I am? And, what was this place? Was it ever what I thought it was? For celebrated journalist and author Julie Salamon, these recently became central questions. Salamon spent the first 18 years of her life Seaman, Ohio, a town that is part of the American heartland, a repository of mythology and misunderstanding.

Enjoyable

I really liked this book. I was raised in a small town in Michigan and one year older than the author. Our school was all white so very similar. After graduating I lived out of state and then returned to live here. It was conservative in the sixties and now has become much more liberal, but I never realized, until after Trump, how very divided. People who I have been friendly with have become outwardly angry and hateful. After listening to the author’s story, I understand that this “visible” division is now part of the small town atmosphere throughout the U.S. Hopefully having it ‘out in the open’ will speed the healing.

Historia
Topanga Canyon is home to two couples on a collision course. Los Angeles liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacker lead an ordered, sushi-and-recycling existence in a newly gated hilltop community: He is a sensitive nature writer, she an obsessive realtor. Mexican illegals Candido and America Rincon desperately cling to their vision of the American Dream as they fight off starvation in a makeshift camp deep in the ravine.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. The story moving so cleverly between the two families made me smile. You have to read this!!!

Historia
On Battersea Reach, a mixed bag of the temporarily lost and the patently eccentric live on houseboats, rising and falling with the tide of the Thames. There is good-natured Maurice, by occupation a male prostitute, by chance a receiver of stolen goods. And Richard, an ex-navy man whose boat, much like its owner, dominates the Reach.

This is a truly enjoyable book. I bought it thinking it would be a fluffy fun bit of escape but it was surprisingly a rich and deep story that was one I will read again.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.
