All the women in her books have the same personality. Plus, they even speak using the same humor and language (making up silly names and using a lot of “holy hell” type-phrases). Don’t get me wrong, it was hysterical when it was in her first books where it was the same female character, but now that she keeps expanding her world, all the other women are almost carbon copies.

Having a full cast was incredible. I think it was the best Blakely audiobook yet, and there have been so many excellent ones. Plus, the interview and bloopers were hysterical!

One suggestion to Andi. Use your regular voice when narrating. Now having heard your conversational voice, your timber and intonation is so much more dynamic when being yourself. Please bring that to your narration!

Honestly, there’s not much to say except, PERFECT! (Apparently, I am required to write a few more words in order to submit the review.)

Why can't we have separate reviews for each narrator?

This book was hysterically funny, with a quirky, awkward, real characters. The female narrator was fantastic. The male narrator was great when he was speaking like someone from the US. Otherwise, he sounded a cockney-Irish-Scottish guy pretending to be Canadian but sounding more confused than anything else. Usually, I look forward to a change in narrator when a new chapter starts. This is the first time I've actually groaned in defeat when the male character started a chapter. If it weren't for how incredibly talented the female narrator was, I would have returned the audiobook and instead read it on my kindle.

Great, but the story gave too many nods towards 50 Shades

(Might as while write this as a letter...)

Dear Brenna,

I wish you would have had more confidence in your writing. The obvious nods towards 50 Shades were unnecessary. You clearly have a great deal of writing talent, and I especially appreciated having your background story about gaming. Going back as far as networking gaming when we had to log in with 300 baud modems (yes, I just gave away my age), I loved how voiced the frustration that women face in the very male-centric world of gaming. Again, you really did not need tap into 50 Shades. Your writing stands alone, and I look forward to reading your next book.

Best regards,
A New Fan

It took a LONG time for me to get into the story. At a high level, the plot was surprisingly compelling, but it took way took long to get there. It was also confusing how the author jumped around from first to third person, depending on who the chapter was about. Ultimately, it made sense. Still, I think it would have been more fluid if she had kept to third person omniscient. I also felt it wasn't well edited. While I listened to the book instead of reading it, I still caught some problems. In fact, the saying that grates on my nerves the most, "could care less," was included. I know, I am nitpicking, but any editor should have caught that. Back to the big picture... I think that if this book was half as long as it was, it would have been a lot better. The last couple of chapters were what changed my opinion from questioning, "Why am I continuing to listen to this," to "I'm glad I listened."

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun. Unfortunately, it was extremely predictable, and it was predictable in a manner that I couldn't tell if the author was going for dramatic irony or not trying to be predictable.

Would you try another book from Annie Jocoby and/or Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood ?

The only person I want to hear more from is Jeremy York. The book dragged on so slowly, I fell asleep multiple times while listening to it. (This never happens to me.) Also, Allison Lynnewood was inappropriately sexy/breathy when her character was supposed to be fearful of affection. I wish I could give York 5 stars and Lynnewood 1 star.

Would you ever listen to anything by Annie Jocoby again?

Highly unlikely.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I'd say, yes. The story was slow and Lynnewood was slow. Jeremy York seemed to do his best to bring life to the story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Broken?

Honestly, I made it only halfway through the story before I just couldn't listen anymore. I will possibly go back to it at some point. What I heard so far, I think could have been condensed/cut down to about 1/4 of what was written.

Just a small comment... Sebastian York was fantastic as Andrew, but the female narrator drove me nuts. Almost every sentence (and sometimes phrase) was ended with a sharp intake of breath. Besides being horribly annoying, it made it sound like Aubry was on the verge of tears, constantly. Plus, almost every line was delivered with a shaky, immature disposition, making it unbelievable that Andrew would even put up with her for a minute. My rating is an attempt at looking past her performance, plus I'm taking into account that York was great, and given I've heard him play a VERY different character in the past, I can comfortably speak to his voice character range.

Would you consider the audio edition of Four to be better than the print version?
I read the book first, then I listened to the audiobook. I was about turn off my phone when I heard, "Keep listening for more..." Really? More? Yes!!!! There were three additional stories that were not in the book!!!!

What did you like best about this story?
In Allegiant, Four's voice wasn't very well developed. While his thoughts were clearly his own, Roth didn't successfully vary her writing to differentiate between Four and Tris. The first of the novellas in the book also suffered from the same lack of differentiation, but the other stories were much more obviously Four's voice. While she still had Four waxing philosophical as Tris did, he had a much more male edge to his voice.

Which scene was your favorite?
I will avoid spoilers...Four's Fear Landscape was by far the best scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wish I could have listened to the audiobook in one setting, but the reality of life intervened.

Any additional comments?
Aaron Stanford has captured the essence of Four. He enhanced Roth's writing and really brought it to life. I am frustrated that there were a few scenes from Divergent that I really wanted to hear from Four's perspective that Roth did not include. At the same time, I'm not sure how well those scenes would have transformed into independent story arcs.
