Good but too much
Revisado: 06-14-24
This was much better than book 13, but it got a little overwhelming with twists and turns. This is probably the creepiest of the series thus far, and it goes overboard. Too much.

Historia
In Trace, Scarpetta travels to Richmond, Virginia, at the odd behest of the recently appointed Chief Medical Examiner, who claims that he needs her help to solve a perplexing crime. When she arrives, however, Scarpetta finds that nothing is as she expected: her former lab is in the final stages of demolition; the inept chief isn't the one who requested her after all; her old assistant chief has developed personal problems that he won't reveal; and a glamorous FBI agent, whom Marino dislikes instantly, meddles with the case.

Great narration, crappy story
Revisado: 06-10-24
I was incredibly disappointed with the story. It was strange. The names were weird and the ending was abrupt. The narrator is the only good part.

Excellent story, poor narration.
Revisado: 05-19-24
I’m a huge fan of this series. The books earlier in the series are great. This story is just as good, but the narrator is beyond disappointing. She sounds so dramatically unrealistic. I am so disappointed. If I were the author, I’d be insanely mad at how much the book was ruined by such a poor performance. I hope the next book sounds better. I cannot understand why Audible changes narrators in a series or why they’d employ such underperforming readers.

Historia
The night my mum disappeared, after a panicked 3am phonecall, I knew something was wrong. The police tried to reassure me. There had to be a logical explanation they said – perhaps she’s taking a break after the tragic death of my father. But I know my mum. Or do I? She would never leave without telling me. Or would she? The harder I look, the more I discover deep, dark family secrets I was not privy to. Worrying secrets I was never meant to know. Which means my parents have lied to me my whole life.

Love Hate Relationship
Revisado: 01-13-24
I have a love hate relationship with Koontz. On the one hand, I love his writing. Excellent plot. Great character development. Deep concepts. But I hate that his books have some major element beyond our reality. It ruins it for me. I get so connected to the characters and so disappointed as they become less relatable throughout. I tried again. I’ll take a break again.

Historia
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

This was my least favorite in the series thus far. The Ireland references are great. But the impulsive wedding felt forced. It was just not as good as the others. I’m looking forward to the next one.
