Weird narrators, weird book
Revisado: 11-20-24
The narration was so weird and stiff it was hard to stay focused on the story. Started cute and ended cute but weird choice for bulk of story setting.
*Also trigger warning for true crime mentions that were disturbing.

It turns out giving up your "right" to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, encouraging things you can do. It's a radical, provocative idea: We're not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own "righteous anger" is a myth. It is the number one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it. But what if Christians were the most unoffendable people on the planet?

All around great
Revisado: 09-13-24
The mentality in this book is great and can be life changing. The weight on my shoulders feels lighter already and all I did was listen to this book and wrote “unoffendable” on a sticky note for myself.
The author’s style of writing is relaxed, relatable, powerful, engaging, and funny. I will have to check out his other books.
5 out of 5 stars!

All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Needs a trigger warning - GRAPHIC
Revisado: 08-01-24
I like this book and I love its message but I regret this audiobook. Please read/listen with caution. The graphic descriptions of injuries was completely unnecessary and disturbing. If I had known about this I would not have listened or read this book. It needs a trigger warning. And a nightmare warning.
The narration was distracting and very weird with all the different voices. It disrupted the flow of the book each time the voice changed.

so good
Revisado: 05-03-24
This book is so good. I have heard rave reviews about this book and wanted to read it for years and it did not disappoint!! It draws you in and then I could it put it down! The descriptive writing combined with the audio recording using different voices is incredible. Some pages were hard to read but nothing too graphic or gruesome.

This book is PACKED with Godly wisdom, great insight, and raw vulnerabilities. Paige drops some hard truths without punching you in the face or sugar coating them. I especially love the parallels to Moses in the last section. I have had the hard copy of this book for a while and have been hoping Paige would release an audiobook so I can revisit it quickly and easily.

Refreshing surprise blessing
Revisado: 01-26-23
I have never heard of this author and I downloaded this audiobook solely for the interview with Lysa Terkeurst because I have read many enneagram books already and I have read all of Lysa’s books too. However I did listen to the intro section and the chapter for my own type before listening to that interview and I was so pleasantly surprised and so glad I did. This book is a refreshing take on the enneagram. There are profound connections made here that I haven’t heard anywhere else that will bless you on your spiritual walk and personal growth journey. Don’t skip over the origins section. The enneagram is not the gospel! The enneagram is not a substitute for the gospel. This is the first enneagram book to clearly point that out boldly and it’s awesome. The interview with Lysa was great and I wanted it to keep going!

Historia
Health and wellness campaigns preach avoidance of unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol, but rarely preach avoidance of unhealthy, difficult, or toxic people. Yet the health benefits of removing toxic people from your life may have far greater benefits to both physical and psychological health. We need to learn to be better gatekeepers for our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, entitlement, and incivility have become the new world order, and we are all in trouble. They are not only normalized but also increasingly incentivized.

LIBERAL POLITICAL UNDERCUTS
Revisado: 01-11-23
What a disappointment. I was hoping this book was going to be helpful but I couldn’t even finish this. The amount of whiney political jabs in the introduction alone is nauseating. Not everyone who has a different opinion than you is a narcissist. Grow up.

mansplaining
Revisado: 11-23-22
If you can get through the first four chapters (endless circles of mansplaining) that basically say the same three sentences over and over then this book has some helpful mindset and tips toward the middle and end. I love the last chapter with quick sections on a variety of helpful topics that are easy to return to later!
Not a fan of the narration- it sounds arrogant most of the time and aggressive sometimes. Grant Cardone knows a lot about sales and he makes sure you know it too in how he reads.

Political undercurrent
Revisado: 10-19-22
This book shares a lot of interesting research and ideas about emotion. It gave me clarity on myself and my emotions as well as some insights into some of my relationships. But the political undercurrent throughout the whole book is distasteful and unprofessional. It is discrediting honestly. I would expect something more neutral and objective from Brene and was disappointed. I appreciate that some lines are repeated for clarity and understanding and I’m so glad the pdf of the images was included with the audiobook!

Sales is a skill anyone can learn and master - and introverts are especially good at it once they learn how to leverage their natural strengths. Introverts aren't comfortable with traditional tactics like aggressively pushing a product or talking over a customer's objections. That's the beauty of The Introvert's Edge: it doesn't focus on the sale itself but on a sales system that helps introverts feel sincere instead of sales-y.
