Historia
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.

Good memoir, makes me want to re-read with the old breed. Was sort of worried at first this would be a "sanitised" or more for teens type of book but it turned out not to be.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Put this one off for a while due to reviews saying the narration was jarring but I was fine with it. It was a little inconsistent with the cast vs the main narrator but didn't bother me enough to really mind it.

Historia
Franklin Roosevelt is the assistant secretary of defense. Thomas Dewey is running for president with a blunt-speaking Missourian named Harry Truman at his side. Britain holds on to its desperate alliance with the United States' worst enemy while a holocaust unfolds in Texas. In Harry Turtledove's compelling, disturbing, and extraordinarily vivid reshaping of American history, a war of secession has triggered a generation of madness. The tipping point has come at last.

Mediocre ending
Revisado: 01-14-22
Idk I wouldnt recommend these to anyone to be honest. It was sort of fun to follow these characters over such a long series but there is so much filler. The last quarter of this book was horrendeslouly slow and boring.

Historia
It is 1943, the third summer of the new war between the Confederate States of America and the United States, a war that will turn on the deeds of ordinary soldiers, extraordinary heroes, and a colorful cast of spies, politicians, rebels, and everyday citizens. The CSA president, Jake Featherston, seems to have greatly miscalculated the North's resilience. But as new demonic tools of killing are unleashed, secret wars are unfolding.

Almost over
Revisado: 12-31-21
I have such mixed feelings about these books. I enjoy the series but could not recommend them to anyone I think. They are all far too long and too similiar to one another. Tons of filler and bizarre historical parallels. If you cant look past it, the more you know about the history the less you will probably enjoy settling accounts. I'm excited to move onto the final book and listen to something else finally but it has been a pleasure overall to follow all these characters for so long.

Historia
In 1914, the First World War ignited a brutal conflict in North America, with the United States finally defeating the Confederate States. In 1917, the Great War ended and an era of simmering hatred began, fueled by the despotism of a few and the sacrifice of many. Now it's 1942. The USA and CSA are locked in a tangle of jagged, blood-soaked battle lines, modern weaponry, desperate strategies, and the kind of violence that only the damned could conjure up for their enemies and themselves.

Historia
In 1914, they called it The Great War, and few could imagine anything worse. For nearly three decades, a peace forged in blood and fatigue has held sway in North America. Now, Japan dominates the Pacific, the Russian Tsar rules Alaska, and England, under Winston Churchill, chafes for a return to its former glory. But behind the façade of world order, America is a bomb waiting to go off. Jake Featherston, the megalomaniacal leader of the Confederate States of America, is just the man to light the fuse.

Somewhat dissapointing
Revisado: 11-23-21
I've been really looking forward to settling accounts but now that I'm here Its a little underwhelming. So many books in this series and the flaws of all of them are catching up with me. I dislike a lot about how Turtledove is finishing this series. Still entertaining but too silly to really take seriously at this point.

Historia
As the Socialist Party battles Coolidge to retain the presidency in 1924, it seems as if it can do no wrong. The stock market soars, and the USA prospers. Although victors in the War of Secession, the CSA still reels from its loss of the Great War while the Freedom Party promises new vigor and pride. But should these gray-shirted fascists seize power, they may prove dangerous. Sharing world supremacy with Germany and bloated with prosperity, the USA fails to notice ominous events inside the weakened CSA.

Revisado: 10-31-21
American empire series isnt bad, its entertaining but I cant recommend these to anyone. They're too long and too much filler. Performance is excellent as always. I hate the mcgregor family with a passion and cant wait until mary blows herself up. Good new pov characters besides her dumb ass tho.

Filler and Overly Long
Revisado: 10-26-21
I am honestly pretty shocked that the books in the American Empire series are all 24 hours long. I'm still going thru this series but only out of an obligation to listen to the whole series.
Still this isn't terrible even if it is unnecessarily long winded. A couple of my least characters finally get killed off finally. I would never listen to this again even though it is passable entertainment.

Took off a star for some frustrating aspects
Revisado: 10-18-21
Good book, if you liked the last few you'll like this one. Only downside is a few of the characters are so unlikable that going through their chapters is a slog. To me POV characters can do horrible things if they have redeeming qualities a la Game of thrones or such but in Breakthrough there are no redeemable qualities to some of these people and it is just so miserable to listen to at times. Still recommend this book as a whole.
