Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Delightful
Revisado: 02-03-21
This is not my usual genre of reading but I found this to be absolutely delightful. While some of the concepts do require adult thinking (politics, war, etc), it’s something I consider clean. You wouldn’t be embarrassed to be caught listening to this one. It would make for an excellent road-trip listen with teenagers and up.

Is this juvenile fiction?
Revisado: 01-05-20
I can’t recall ever leaving a poor review for an audiobook but this certainly warranted it. The plot was predictable and the characters were stereotypes. Overall, it felt like a “formula” and unfortunately it was a formula for “boring.”
The main character is a young female detective that consistently defies her superior’s directives and is always right, the hero of the situation. You have a soon-to-be retired detective who loves donuts and his only purpose in the book is to dole out advice to the main character. A few male colleagues that think she doesn’t deserve her place on the squad and gives her a hard time every chance they get and a suspect that thinks he is more clever than all of them.
Yawn
The writing felt forced and completely out of touch. The dialogue was the worst part. Much of it was narrative with quotations or unnecessary. Maybe the author had a certain word count that needed to be met? Why else would our heroine, fleeing a fire and navigating a car through the smoke so thick that she cannot see through it with a young victim in what is supposed to be the most thrilling rescue turn around and say to the young girl in the back “I apologize about the rough ride, it will be over soon.”?
The performance was as good as it could be. She could only perform what was written.
Maybe if I were in middle school, I would have thought this was a decent book. As it is, I’ve read and listened to enough to know better.

Predictable and Slow
Revisado: 07-27-19
The story line was completely predictable and just took forever. It felt like I was waiting for "the good stuff" throughout the entire book.
The drama was wayyy overdone. Every moment was some big, emotional struggle for any given character. The main characters can't even pour a cup of coffee without some deep moment of relfection or mental turmoil. How many times do we have to read/hear about someone's deep, dark eyes full of heartbreak and longing? How their heart felt like it was sinking into a deep cavern so for beneath the earth that it may never be found?
The performance was fine but the narrator can only do so much with the material she was given.

Excellent Story and Excellent Performance
Revisado: 09-22-18
This was my first experience with both the author and narrators’ work. Both were superb.
The author’s style reminds me a little of Stephen King (not horror) in that he tells a tale with many details and each one of them are important to the story.
The both narrators gave excellent performances. The pace was exactly right and the voices of the different characters throughout the book were well done.
