Historia
A new threat has emerged, but this one is coming from inside Awaken Online. An unknown guild has somehow managed to threaten the game world. Yet, unlike Jason's former battles, his enemies are unclear—hidden in the shadows and hiring others to do their dirty work, including the infamous Death and Taxes. Without a clear enemy or way to stop this threat, Jason is forced to do something he never thought he would...ask for help.

I love this series, but this book was weak
Revisado: 01-30-23
So much contrived drama. Characters behaving drastically differently than they have in the past. Fifty percent of the drama in this book could and should have been avoided by friends/allies having a two second conversation.
The series is great (I will continue buying/reading), and the performance of this title was executed very well, but the only good part of this particular story is the dynamic and ingenuity of the characters in Death and Taxes. The out of character actions of the other various avatars are almost painful for the reader.

Historia
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

This was incredible.
Revisado: 04-06-21
I love long stories. So many LitRPGs are only like 12hr listens, and it feels like the author/publisher are trying to do the bare minimum to get me to buy the book. It's even worse if the author writes a long story that's utterly boring and lacks any compelling elements.
But this stands apart! It's long enough to show actual character growth. The characters suffer actual loss and setbacks, and their viewpoints are challeneged. The story arc winds and weaves and the whole thing is just really well handled.
Buy this book.
It's also worth mentioning that the performer does an excellent job as well, very pleasant and engaging to listen to.
I am neither a robot, nor was I paid to write a good review. I just really enjoyed the story.

Amazing. No, astonishing!
Revisado: 03-12-21
Made me into a true believer.
The main character is relateable, struggling to balance the need to do whatever you have to survive, the desire to seize opportunities to flourish no matter the cost, and the responsobility to do what you know to be right.
The story is funny, nostalgic, sad, challenging, cringe-inducing, moving, and above all, heroic.
I highly recommend it.

Like a rollercoaster - but a poorly designed one.
Revisado: 07-21-20
You're excited for the ride. You've ridden all the other rides in the park and loved them, and you've been waiting in line for this one for what seems like ages.
Finally, you get to the front. You're so ready. You climb into the car, get strapped in, and pull the safety bar down over your head. James Marsters' honey-over-gravel voice instructs you to keep your hands and arms in the car at all times, and wishes you a good trip. And then you're off.
The car slowly pulls around the first turn and begins to ratchet up that first big hill. It climbs higher and higher, and you're really getting excited. This is gonna be so great! Higher still it climbs, until looking over the side makes you a little dizzy. And just when you think it's finally time to crest the top...
...the book ends.

Overall pretty good, but the glitchy
Revisado: 07-13-20
The audio file seems to have been poorly produced? Towards the end it begins to overlay itself, making it sound like you have one person reading two different books to you at once. It's a real mood killer.

This author doesn't seem to understand how to write an ending. It's always like, "...and then the bad guy died. END."
Get it together, Dave. You can do better.
