As singular and strange as some of the weapons are, we learn that similar factors set their evolution in motion. He looks at everything from our armor and camouflage to the evolution of the rifle and the structures human populations have built across different regions and eras to protect their homes and communities.

Excellent and easy read
Revisado: 10-07-19
The only thing I found a bit silly was that the author really kind of overdid it with his adjective usage throughout the book. But, that’s my only complaint. It was an interesting story that blended military history and animal weapons. Plus the reader of this book, Sean Runnette, is one of my favorites.

Excellent history
Revisado: 06-28-17
This book does a great job of captivating the reader. While its historical research quality is great, it reads like a story and less like a constant inundation of the facts upon the reader. I highly recommend it.

Just what I needed!
Revisado: 03-21-17
I listened to this book at the recommendation of someone else and was really satisfied. Many of the concepts were known to me, previously internalized truths. Many more ideas were not and I enjoyed the fantasy of traveling again while I wait to save enough to go again out on the road. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a great company to planning a trip!

Not bad, just not incredible
Revisado: 01-09-17
What made the experience of listening to Prince of Thorns the most enjoyable?
Its a fantasy novel, and it does what fantasy novels are meant to do, which is invoke a thought process and take you to a world detached from your own.
If you’ve listened to books by Mark Lawrence before, how does this one compare?
N/A
What does James Clamp bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He has a very intense way of reading the book. It took some getting used to but I think it was befitting of the content he was reading.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
N/A
Any additional comments?
My major complaint about the book is not with the narrator but the book itself. The whole thing is like an embellishment. Its in some ways everything we hate about the personality of arrogant people. The entire book is about this preteen/teen.....(what can only be described as an attempt at) superhero?? Its a book that overestimates the abilities and the cognitive complexity of a very young man on a grand scale. At almost every turn of the page the main character is boasting about himself, about his prowess on the battlefield, etc., one-upping characters with whom he should really be easily out of his depth. And yet, listening to him describe things is almost laughable. If you can get past that, which I found to be the only rather off putting aspect of the book, the rest of the story is actually pretty ok. I liked it sufficiently to consider listening to the rest in this series.

Historia
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man. After his tutelage under a surrogate father figure, Valentine begins his transformation into a kind of messiah.

Personal opinion
Revisado: 11-23-16
When I started this book it was pretty heavy on strange details that I couldn't grasp. It took a while (or what felt like a while) to get clued in, as you'd expect with any great book. Once hooked however I immensely enjoyed the story. It had a captivating narrative, philosophical bits I appreciated, and the reader did a decent job differentiating characters. If by the end he had dropped a portion of that differentiation, I barely noticed and it barely mattered to my enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend this long listen to anyone!
