Historia
Welcome to Barton Mallet, a remote village in the Midlands that has been chosen as the unlikely location for a new feature film from Hollywood producer Max Crow. Teenagers from the local drama group are encouraged to audition for a story about the trials and tribulations of growing up. Benjamin Knot, the CEO of a well-known architecture firm, discovers that his children, Lily and Nathan, have each been offered a role. But Barton Mallet has a deep wound that has never truly healed.

Excellently crafted
Revisado: 08-23-24
Armitage is really flourishing as a storyteller. My only complaint is that, if you loved his ‘Geneva’ from last year, the plot feels pretty predictable. Never needed to wonder who the bad guy would be. Great listen otherwise!

Couldn’t get enough
Revisado: 09-12-23
I’ve listened 3 times now. This is a gem of a novella. A portrait indeed, of the painter and the painted. Of a time and of a community. This story is vivid and enthralling and read beautifully.

Historia
A queer and dangerously hungry mountain lion lives in the drought-devastated land under the Hollywood sign. Lonely and fascinated by humanity’s foibles, the lion spends their days protecting the welfare of a nearby homeless encampment, observing obnoxious hikers complain about their trauma, and, in quiet moments, grappling with the complexities of their gender identity, memories of a vicious father, and the indignities of sentience. “I have so much language in my brain,” our lion says, “and nowhere to put it.”

Gentle storytelling that packs a punch.
Revisado: 08-01-23
Open Throat is some of the most gentle, concise, elegant prose I’ve read in years. The story is so straightforward and yet it ended and I felt like someone had slapped me in the face. I’m totally in love with it. What a story about when to leave. About wanting to know who you are. This is worth a third or fourth read and may become one of my favorite books.

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Like reading a master painting
Revisado: 02-03-23
This pitch perfect performance walks the listener through every moment of this masterwork with confidence and deftness. I saw clearly the portrait of each character and felt more rage or compassion that I ever could have, we’re I left to interpret the writing myself. So in love with this production.

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Best Listen I’ve Had All Year
Revisado: 09-08-22
I’ve smiled for two straight hours listening. The narration and sound design are completely immersive, the story is original in a way you could never expect. THE stand out among P&P follow up fiction. I’m so happy this exists

Sad
Revisado: 06-23-22
Not a redeemable thing about it. Impossible to like any of the vapid, poorly written characters. Embarrassed to have finished it.
