I loved this book. It follows Regan and Elliott, two cadets in training to hopefully one day be able to help mankind by working for the government, and preventing a group called Mayhem from messing and altering the past. once they are graduated they become glitchers (the ones that travel to the real past and stop Mayhem workers). They find the culprits, handcuff them and bring them back to the present and bring them to justice. The glitchers also have the task of not interacting with the past in any way, just to go and arrest the Mayhem member. Otherwise if they mess up a mission they could become a disturbance in history themselves. Regans weaknesses is not remembering the history lessons which prevents her from quickly knowing what routes she should take and apprehended a butterfly (aka a Mayhem member who is trying to change the pass for payment) quickly. However she does have a uncanny knack at spotting a butterfly on mission. Elliott on the other hand can remember almost all of history which helps him quickly navigate in his simulation and know what the butterfly is most likely trying to achieve in changing. Though his weaknesses is having a hard time identifying the butterfly. whenever Regan and Elliott are in the same room they seem to fight all the time. These two are the last ones to think they'd end up as candidates for a new and secretive program that trains cadets to work in pairs and forever be together on every mission they ever go on. All other glitchers work alone. However they end up in the program because of a mysterious letter they get from future Regan letting them know that they must work together. I really enjoyed the book. I liked the way that this was clean and focused on small parts of history. The history that was given never felt like I had side stepped into a history book. The author gave enough history to help explain what was going on but moved to the action of the story. I also liked how this was a good children's book (which is hard to find now a days). Despite the difference in skin color, they never mentioned that. Only things they mentioned were the only things that actually mattered, like personality clashes and how they could overcome their own flaws to get along with others. Really good character development. Awesome job on the book overall. it does leave on a cliffhanger. but the cliffhanger is not so bad , not like so in so died and we'll have to see in the next book what the fate of the others are. It ends, but with a hope of another book in the future... we hope. :)

It was read really well. It can be funny at time and filled with action. Book summed up in which Sebastian a very logical boy ends up going on a very illogical adventure. The only Warning is, there is a homosexual couple that pops up in the 3rd book. If you and your family are ok with this then this book is clean and really funny. However if you like to discuss this type of thing with your family before they read it in books then this review is for you. I gave 2 stars because I felt if the author wanted this in the book they should have it in there in book 1 and not take 3 books to get there.

Really liked this book. It's been a while since I last got into a YA series (most series recently just don't seem to catch my attention). But this one had me from the beginning. Sanderson did a good job, of character development to griping action scenes. The main character, Spensa, is a odd but likeable character. it starts off with her father taking her up to the surface where most people don't see. Since the majority of the population is forced to live underground due to staying out of enemy sight. She gets to see her planet for the 1st time. It's also when she gets to see the stars for the 1st time. Most that get to go above ground don't get the chance to see the stars due to a huge, what they call, a debri field covering space. It's in this moment that her father encourages her to claim the stars, like aiming beyond the planet that they are stuck on. After this little scene everything goes South and the dreaded Krell attract. She is told to go back down to the caverns by her father, as he runs off to a DDF star fighter to heroically take the enemy down. How ever when this momentous battle is over her father is branded a coward and she is to live a life know as the cowards daughter. She sets off as a 17 year old girl years later to redeem her fathers name by becoming a pilot like him in the DDF. Knowing that her father couldn't possibly be a coward. But soon she'll find out he was much worse then a coward, a traitor. And for good reasons the DDF is afraid she'll be just like him. Saying she has what they call the defect, the reason her father went traitor. Or is it a defect, might she have ability that can finally get them off the planet that they've all been stuck on with no way out? I enjoyed reading/listening to her journey, from going to out cast to MVP. Despite being in my mid 20's (a little older then the reading range) I really enjoyed this book. Don't get the book yet if your the kind of person who can't wait for the next book to come out.
