Delightfully funny
Revisado: 02-12-25
One of my favorite podcasts. The hazards and frustrations of driving in the city narrated by friends with a bit to say about everything.
This is how I find new comedians. Riding in the car, it is easy to know which guests are genuinely funny and which are kinda A-holes.

So fun!

Best of the books written during CoVID and possibly my favorite Scalzi. This book is light and fun and just a tad Austin Powers. I loved it.

Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

Finished this series for the second time. Love it. Next time- I hope the regular village living character interactions feature a bit more prominently.

Major cliffhanger. Continuation of book 1. Equally as good or better than book 1 BUT I wish I had waited until the full series is published before listening. There is no resolution. You are given some answers but even more questions. Then the book just stops! The end almost felt mid-chapter much less mid story.

Historia
Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo. Ember Brycin has been called them all. She's always known she's different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her. When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who's hot as hell and darkly mysterious.

narration is breathy and over dramatic
Revisado: 07-07-16
What disappointed you about Darkness of Light?
The narration is overly dramatic. Every sentence is read like it is some steamy romance novel- even if the sentence is about getting in a car and driving to school. It drove me crazy!

The end was not surprising- the mystery unfolded as expected but the characters and adventures are fun and witty. A smart and funny mystery adventure.

Historia
At an exclusive school somewhere outside of Arlington, Virginia, students aren't taught history, geography, or mathematics - at least not in the usual ways. Instead, they are taught to persuade. Here the art of coercion has been raised to a science. Students harness the hidden power of language to manipulate the mind and learn to break down individuals by psychographic markers in order to take control of their thoughts. The very best will graduate as "poets": adept wielders of language who belong to a nameless organization that is as influential as it is secretive.

I do not enjoy conspiracy theory type books but this had a slightly comical edge to the truths woven into the setup. I applaud the author.

Historia
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay. Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life.

Audiobook Performance Star!
Revisado: 02-13-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Sea of Tranquility to be better than the print version?
This audiobook it dramatized to the point that it is obvious which character is speaking and what tone the character is speaking with. Not cheezy drama, just reading the way you hear it in your head. Perfect!

Brilliant but dated
Revisado: 10-10-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This was entertaining but noticeably dated. While the storyline was certainly brilliant when Asimov wrote it (1950s?), technology has changed to the point that older Sci Fi can feel dated.

Historia
Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, Carolyn is gaining an - um - intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed "dating hiatus," and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor.

Completely lacking in substance
Revisado: 10-01-13
What could Alice Clayton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The story line was completely predictable, there was no point in most of the chapters, and the book was about ten times longer than it should have been to tell the story.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The characters could possibly have been great, if they had been given a better story.
Any additional comments?
This book is best for someone just looking for a sweet and sexy romance. No substance at all, but it was a tiny bit cute and sweet.
