Well told mediocre story
Revisado: 01-22-24
The narrative was well performed. Charming vocal performance but the story while written well was not crafted all that well. It lacked any mystery or puzzle and resolves with very little twist or turnabout. I don’t regret the time spent listening to the story, but it would have been better spent with a stronger story.

A wonderful telling
Revisado: 12-31-23
This historical fiction was a true and rare find. The story kept me drawn to bing listen nearly straight through. The narrator’s characters were so unique. Each voice was so different and well performed I checked to see if some characters were voiced by other actors. The narration turned a very good book into an outstanding performance. I will wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone seeking a great “read”.

Historia
October 22, 1844: "Then shall the sanctuary be cleansed" - Not a soul wanders the streets. Businesses are boarded up. Farms have been sold. For the people of Calvary—and hundreds of thousands more across the country—the end is near. Led by the apocalyptic prophecy of Reverend William Miller, the believers have spent the year preparing for Jesus Christ to return at sundown and bring about the rapture. All of his predictions have thus far come to pass, infallible as the Bible itself.

A parable that’s just as true today
Revisado: 12-20-23
This compelling story was so in tune with society today. It’s story of people in the 1800s blindly following doctrine of a person preaching a set of prophecies without anything other than his charm to make an entire town follow him blindly. What is disturbing is how true this parable is today. And 150 some odd years. It looks like mankind has not grown any wiser. I was particularly impressed with the narrator skill many books have listened to on tape have had narrators that did not impress me. however, Steven was exceptional

Terrible adaptation
Revisado: 11-30-23
I got this audiobook in hopes to have a far more in-depth and detailed telling of this movie script. Instead, I had an incredibly abbreviated telling of Star Trek for with enormous swatches of the story completely cut.
I was so disappointed with this adaptation!!!

Misses on all levels
Revisado: 12-05-22
Story is not only weak , it also it poorly written.
Accents and characterizations and uninteresting. The somewhat Australian accent for Elnor. All other Romulans have silly British accents. Narrator doesn’t have much range.
And Frankly, the character of Raffi is not that interesting to me personally. If I am getting a Picard story, I would like more Picard.

Historia
Following the explosive events seen in season one of Star Trek: Picard, Raffi Musiker finds herself torn between returning to her old life as a Starfleet Intelligence officer or something a little more tame—teaching at the Academy, perhaps. The decision is made for her though when a message from an old contact—a Romulan spy—is received, asking for immediate aid. With the help of Elnor and assistance from Jean-Luc Picard, Raffi decides to take on this critical mission—and quickly learns that past sins never stay buried. Finding the truth will be complicated, and deadly…

It’s a slog
Revisado: 12-04-22
There are so many things I don’t care for with this particular book. The plot is slow and plotting. Very boring. It features some of my least favorite characters. And the authors writing style feels so amateurish. Which is strange because this author has written so many books in the Star Trek franchise. I think what grates on me listening to it is how many times she says the phrase “he said”, “she said”, “Raffi said”, “Vaul said”. I am less than halfway through and it’s like finger nails on a chalkboard.

Not my favourite Trek Author
Revisado: 03-07-21
James Swallow should get a thesaurus for his Birthday. Little things take me out of the moment when listening to a recorded book. IN this case, it's Mr. Swallow's use of the same words over and over.
By about the middle of the book he has used the word 'aspect' so much that if I have been playing a drinking game I would have alcohol poisoning.
Other than that is was a fine story and Robert Petkoff is a very good narrator and I find myself seeking out books he narrates.

Over all a good Trek Story
Revisado: 11-06-19
I sadly grabbed this and started on Book 3 but it was not hard to jump in there. It was a well crafted story and well narrated. I suppose I wouldn't write much at all but one thing grated on my nerves. The narrator being from the UK would naturally pronounce many words not in the American style. No problem. However, it bothered me that the director or producer did not provide the artist with accepted pronunciations of Trek works. Species names, Trek techno-jargon. Character names. He was not briefed on how to say words like Raktajino or even the proper way to say Kieko O'Brien. This is not the author or actors issue. I think the producer dropped the ball here and it really pulled me out of my Trek groove as I enjoyed the rest of the experience.

Horrible
Revisado: 08-02-19
This story is so childish and idiotic. It’s filled with non creative pop culture references. Strong anti liberal jokes. Cartoonish characters. I suffered through it until the end and it never improved in the slightest. It was free and I still feel like I was ripped off. A 7th grader could have made a better book than this. I have NO IDEA how this was published, let alone turned into an audiobook!!!
