Historia
Emmeline and William Pershing have enjoyed a perfectly convenient marriage for eight years. Their relationship is a seamless blend of their talents and goals. They’ve settled into separate, well-ordered lives beneath the same roof, and are content to stay that way―or so Emmeline thinks. And if William has secretly longed for a bit more from the woman he adores, he’s managed to be content with her supreme skills as a hostess and planner, which has helped him advance his career.

Unexpectedly Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-16-23
Although a little predictable, I really enjoyed this book and was only disappointed when it was over. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

Historia
From Knopf Canada's New Face of Fiction program - launching grounds for Yann Martel's Life of Pi and Ann-Marie MacDonald's Fall on Your Knees - comes this powerfully evocative novel. At age 18, Seid Quan is the first in the Chan family to emigrate from China to Vancover in 1913. Paving the way for a wife and son, he is profoundly lonely, even as he joins the Chinatown community. Weaving in and out of the past and the present, The End of East pieces together the spellbinding tale of Seid Quan's family.

Hard to Follow
Revisado: 12-14-22
There are many main characters that span multiple generations. The story is not told sequentially and when transitioning between times and character, it was not always clear when and who the author was moving to. This made it really hard to follow. I'm just glad it was short, or I would not have finished it.

Historia
Nestled into the cliffs in southern Italy's Amalfi coast, Positano is an artist's vision, with rows of brightly hued houses perched above the sea and picturesque staircases meandering up and down the hillside. Santina, still a striking woman despite old age and the illness that saps her last strength, is spending her final days at her home, Villa San Vito. The magnificent 18th-century palazzo is very different from the tiny house in which she grew up. And as she decides its fate, she must confront the choices that led her here so long ago.

Lovely story
Revisado: 11-20-21
I am not usually one to appreciate the beauty in one's writing, preferring the story line instead, but this book has both. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
