Historia
Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher, one of the few capable of hunting the monsters that prey on humanity. He uses magical signs, potions, and the pride of every Witcher—two swords, steel and silver. But a contract has gone wrong, and Geralt finds himself without his signature weapons. Now he needs them back, because sorcerers are scheming, and across the world clouds are gathering. The season of storms is coming. . .

Historia
In this follow-up to Nesbit’s classic Five Children and It, Cyril, Robert, Anthea, Jane, and the Lamb have more magical adventures in store when a mysterious egg hatches in the nursery fireplace. Out comes a flame-colored bird, the Phoenix, who, though a bit conceited, proves very helpful indeed. The bird kindly explains that the second-hand Persian carpet recently acquired for the nursery is actually a flying one. On it, they may travel to any place and time that they wish. But once again, the children find that magic does not always go as planned.

So much fun!

Everyone enjoyed this book! It's sparklingly witty, hilarious, and moral without being cloying. Takes a wild story and makes it totally believable. So much to love.

Historia
12-year-old Aidan Errolson, comes from a long line of adventurers. His grandparents were among the first settlers of Corenwald's Eastern Frontier. His father had been one of the kingdom's greatest warriors. Aidan, on the other hand, lives the quiet, comfortable life, of a nobleman's son. He never has any real adventures, and that, he believes, is the one great injustice of his otherwise happy life. All that will change the day he first hears the bark of the bog owl, and meets Dobro Turtlebane.

The kids loved it so I guess it earns a few stars?
Revisado: 12-21-20
I'm giving this three stars for several reasons even though I ultimately hated it. THE GOOD:
#1 The author is from our home state of GA, yay! It's fun to know intimately the geography and culture that inspired his writing.
#2 The story is a pretty neat idea and so unique. A southern King David? From a swamp? When I figured out where the story was going I had high hopes.
#3 The younger kids loved it! From the opening to the last words they were totally hooked. They begged for more, which is a bummer because I wasn't a fan for a number of reasons. THE BAD:
#1 The mix is just too bizarre. Redneck swagger mashed up with Biblical legend and British history bits, then throw in some indigenous swamp people for good measure. I could never settle into this story because I kept being startled by another curve ball. Like sitting down to eat a delicious cinnamon roll and then two bites in, BAM! Garlic....and is that...... cheddar?
#2 For all its whiz pop fireworks of weirdness this story managed to be downright boring. The main character has struggles, but they're all external. He's the Wilderking and can do no wrong. The cliches had me groaning before they even arrived. It was painful.
#3 I don't want to hate too hard here, because I know the author narrated his own story and I'm sure that's not easy, but the narration was just not my favorite. And that "bark of the bog owl" that he loves doing? It's not fun to hear four kids replicate it in the backseat. The moment I heard it I regretted this book and I've been regretting it ever since.
#4 The older than ten group was not a fan. Husband took a 30 second listen and deemed it "horrible" and older teen who suffered through roughly 50% with me had similar complaints.
We'll likely buy the next book just because the kids want to see where the story goes, but it won't be a family road trip listen, it'll be more like a "mom suffers through it to keep the kids happy while running errands" sort of listen.
