Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

A heart-touching story of a group of young men in the heart of the depression striving toward a goal as one.
Revisado: 02-27-24
I love this book. Herman Edward was the perfect narrator. He brought to life the backgrounds and hardships of young men struggling to make something of themselves. You felt their pain, their challenges, their wonder of the world and their joy that crewing brought to them. Their achievements were so much more special because they reached them together. In a world where things are measured in the number of “likes” we attain, this book is very special.

Civic Class, but way more entertaining!
Revisado: 06-03-21
Considering high school no longer teaches civic (WTF), this is a worthwhile book. Something as important as our founding tenets should be at least as important as a calculus class, which for most, is never used again. It was interesting, important and, at times, funny.

Historia
In the first single-volume cradle-to-grave portrait in six decades, acclaimed biographer David Michaelis delivers a stunning account of Eleanor Roosevelt’s remarkable life of transformation. An orphaned niece of President Theodore Roosevelt, she converted her Gilded Age childhood of denial and secrecy into an irreconcilable marriage with her ambitious fifth cousin Franklin. Franklin Roosevelt transformed Eleanor from a settlement house volunteer on New York’s Lower East Side into a matching partner in New York’s most important power couple in a generation.

Historia
A forgotten, dark chapter of American history with implications for the current day, The Guarded Gate tells the story of the scientists who argued that certain nationalities were inherently inferior, providing the intellectual justification for the harshest immigration law in American history. Brandished by the upper-class Bostonians and New Yorkers - many of them progressives - who led the anti-immigration movement, the eugenic arguments helped keep hundreds of thousands of Jews, Italians, and other unwanted groups out of the US for more than 40 years.

America loves to forget its wrong doings.
Revisado: 04-05-20
Well documented book. It made me wonder how close I may have come to NOT being an American citizen. My Italian family came to America just 2 years before the Johnson Reed Act in 1924. How my life would have been different. How many lives would have been saved had those who fought for pure nativism realized that their families also came here for the very same reasons. Heartbreaking!
