Historia
Montezuma was an isolated world of interest to no one—until an interstellar corporation discovered vast resources of rare materials under the surface, just waiting to be extracted and sold. The corporates legally stole the planet, crushed the native dreams of independence, and brought in vast numbers of outsiders to mine the rough-hewn world, leaving poverty, pollution, and deprivation on an unimaginable scale in their wake.

Historia
Demons have been hunted to the verge of extinction. Those who know of the horrors lurking in the dark act as though the threat is long past. It has allowed Conrad to continue his education undisturbed, to work toward joining his friends as a comrade-in-arms rather than a child to be protected.

It was decent
Revisado: 06-25-24
Duncan is a great storyteller, I’ve really enjoyed his series, but for some reason this book was a bit tougher to enjoy. It’s certainly worth the listen, however.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

You're not Ready for how amazing this series is
Revisado: 01-13-24
I wish I could put into words how much I have loved this series, starting with this very book. Columbus day starts off with such a relatable, if fantastical, "what if" scenario of aliens attacking earth. However, half way through you meet what I consider to be the most iconic sci-fi character I have ever met, and the enjoyment somehow gets dialed up to 11.
The best part? This is only the first step into a wide, vibrant universe in a fairly long series thats incredibly well written the entire way. RC Bray's performance through this book and series has set a new standard for excellence that will be incredibly hard to match. Craig Alanson has created a master piece, and you'd be doing yourself a favor by purchasing this book.

Historia
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war. The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people. But Darrow is determined to fight back. Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

When an author hates their characters…
Revisado: 08-09-23
This is the premise of this book. By the time I had two and a half hours left, I was so tired of previously well written characters being casually offed or being unbelievably stubborn and taking bad actions, I tapped out. I don’t care how the book finishes. I’m done with the series.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Historia
“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Not what I expected at all.
Revisado: 09-25-18
This book was not good. its perhaps 33% thrawn, 33% anakin skywalker and 33%padme with a smattering of darth vader.
Anakin was a terrible character in the movies, he's a worse character in the books. Padme is also not very interesting.
This is particularly disappointing because the first thrawn book was so different and so good it legit rocked me. To have this be the follow up was quite a let down.
Marc Thompson was fantastic, which is why i quit halfway through the book and deleted it. I didnt want to associate his fantastic reading with this particular book.
100% my opinion, and I own it. I do not recommend this book.
