Historia
Tossed back into the not-so-familiar fairy-tale world of Never After, Filomena Jefferson-Cho and her friends set off on another adventure...this time in search of Cinderella’s glass slipper. Or rather, glass slippers. It turns out the classic story of Cinderella is full of lies - starting with how Cinderella herself is far from the innocent heroine everyone thinks she is. She is manipulative and cunning - willing to do anything to be the princess of Eastphalia. The real heroines of her story are her “wicked” stepsisters, who aren’t actually wicked at all!

self Promotion Disguised as 4th Wall Breaking
Revisado: 11-26-24
I didn't like the first book, but for some reason I held out hope for this one because the Premise was good. But once again the execution was terrible.
Besides the young age of the characters and an annoyingly whining 12 yr old lead character the biggest problem with the book is the author's own arrogance.
She never once let's you forget what a "great" writer she is. In every paragraph it seems like she has to literally mention how great her book series is, we really must read the other books in the series to appreciate what's happening and yes there are still more books to come.
I general hate 4th wall breaking amd I get the conceit of the story is, it's a "what if your favorite book was real" premise. But come on,
The constant self congratulations, was out of control. I never once felt like I was reading a book. It was reading a press release.

Terrible Narration and Prose
Revisado: 07-15-24
the Narration was annoyingly slow paced to the point that it didn't sound like natural speaking. I had to eventually increase the speed to 1:20 to make it sound "normal."
The prose was written like someone who figured out how to rhyme words for the first time.
Every other sentence or paragraph ended with a rhyme and I didn't have time for that. It felt lazy and started to drive me a bit crazy.
With that said, I was curious until I read the protagonist was 12 yrs old so I kind of lost interest. But the biggest turn off was when the author promoted her own book in her own series. I hate 4th wall breaking with a passion. Especially when this is the first book and the character is like "Oh wow, today's the release of the final installment of the Never After Series." That was my stopping point.
I kind of want to know what happens as I do like modern spins on classic fairytales like Wicked and Dorothy Must Die and I've been searching for other similar stories and haven't found any.

Maggie Patel has landed her dream job at The New York Spectator; or, it would be, if she could get a decent story assignment. When a career-making interview finally lands on her desk, it’s with the last person she’d ever want to see again — Edward, the Crown Prince of Bairmorne...and her long-ago friend.

I Hated the FL, Good Production
Revisado: 06-02-24
I don't know if I enjoyed this or not. I'm halfway through this. I love the fact that it's a professional, full cast production complete with sound affects.
I'm kind of annoyed that all the chapters are really short like 2 - 4 minuts so it feels a bit "jarring" how quickly scenes end and nothing is given time to breathe.
The FL - Maggie is annoying the crap out of me.
She sounds like a whiner, complainer, shrew and completely unprofessional. Her hit piece against the Royal family was all about how they wronged her.
She only knows how to write hit pieces out of anger, without bothering to really check her facts or calming down first. The worst kind of "journalist". The self righteous, know it all!
How does someone with a clear ax to grind get a piece like that published?
She's acting like a bitter child. What's even worse , she never really apologizes for her behavior and everyone has to apologize to her and walk on eggshells around her.
What happened to her happened 16 yrs ago, but she's still holding a grudge and acting like it ruined her life.
Considering she still graduated from school, went to a fancy European School and then went to Columbia, it's hard to feel any sympathy for this character.
It's like let it go already.
And why blame the Prince for it anyway, he was a teen as well, so it isn't like he had anything to do with it.
The voice acting is fairly solid. But I'm struggling to finish and there's only 3 hrs left.

The Books Aren't Seperated
Revisado: 09-16-23
I don't like that the 3 books are not properly labeled so that I can skip to the book that I want to listen to. Instead the Chapter numbering treats this as one book. The first book so far is boring and I have no idea where Book 2 and 3 actually start. It's very frustrating.

Ok Narration - Terrible Story
Revisado: 07-10-23
This story is terrible, the last book was aboutngood vs evil regardless pf gender. This one lost me the second they finally got back to the school and the central theme became a man doesn't need a woman, whoch would be well and good but the story is clearly set up where the only ending will be - yes she needs a man to be happy. Also as unlikeable and intolerable Sophia was in the first book, Agatha was at least likeable. In this book she's just as bad as Sophia.

Good story
Revisado: 05-18-23
This is good serviceable story that doesn't contain any real drama, with serviceable, likeable characters, and a nice performance, but ultimately nothing that you'll remember once you finish.

Terrible Narration
Revisado: 10-12-19
Imsaw the musical a few times and thought I'd listen to the audible book and honestly, despite repeated tries in the last 6 months I can't make it past Chapter 3. The narrator is so dry and devoid of passion, it puts me to sleep. I love the concept of the story and know its radically different than the musical, which is what I want but I cant judge the atory because I can't make it past chapter 4

Not Good and a little Smarmy
Revisado: 10-12-19
This is a terrible book. Very poor writing and a failure from the start.
The problem is Chase, the superstar in question instantly falls in love with Zoe from her tweet because it was so different and challenging but it's not even clear what she tweeted other than "he was kind of flat." I listened to that 9 times to see if I missed something witty or charming. I didn't. Bailey Carr's gives a skin crawling narration that makes it seem like she's in a porn novel and not this. It's all breathy, "wannabe sexy" and weird. Chase isn't treated as though he's a real human by Zoe at all. I understand she's star stuck, literally every Zoe thought is about Chase's perfect body, perfect abs, perfect hands, perfect smile and overall perfection. I get it he's perfect, move on already it was becoming maddening. How about giving the guy a personality and while we're at it giving Zoe a personality. At some point the author decided hey, what would make Zoe seem interesting is to make all her Tweets, silly "Trivia Questions." Gee, yeah, that adds a lot of layers to Zoe. We do meet Zoe's family who all have Z names and they hold hands and prey before bedtime. Awww.... That way our vestal virgin Zoe can continue to fantasize about Chase. Why do the women in these stories always have to be virgins or celibate? Who writes this stuff?
I like these kind of cheesy Cinderella kind stories, but usually the Famous person has a lot of layers and the person they are attracted to, treat them like real people, not afraid to call them out, are their own people (sort of). I'm on Chapter 8 and none of that has happened yet. Chase is on a sexy pedestal and I don't like Zoe at all. Scratch that, there's nothing there to like or dislike. She's a blank slate. There is absolutely NO reason for someone like Chase to fall instantly and madly in love with Zoe over that one stupid, innocous tweet and that's where this novel falls apart. None of their twitter banner has been witty or charming and it's not clear what was said that caught his eye in the first place. Without that being well established it's hard to just go with this story. There's zero basis for this "relationship." Did I mention I feel like I'm listening to a bad religious porn novel?
