The life for women in India at around 1920
Revisado: 12-01-19
How should I describe this book ? Not sure.
I heard about this book on various lists for great historical mysteries. I have to admit that it took me two trials to read this book, the first half of the book is very different from what I usually read. In my mind the best way to describe the first half is to describe it as a view of how it was to be a woman in India during the time frame of around 1920. Whether you were a Muslim, Hindi, Parsi or ..., the life of women was definitely different from what we consider normal today.
This way of building up the story was very good and added to the quality of the second half, when we go deeper into the mystery part of this book.
Definitely agree that this is one of the most interesting historical mystery books coming out lately. Definitely difficult not to jump directly to the next one in this series.

Highly recommended for Historical Mysteries
Revisado: 12-01-19
I truly liked this book, It is definitely getting 6 stars out of 5 possible from me.
I am a true fan of historical mysteries, and this is a good one.
It was interesting to watch recently a news show on UK channel 4 about one of the actual events, shown in this book, really makes the story very believable.
This period in the history of India is also very interesting. As someone who first visited India as a teenager in the early 70's it really influenced me.

Historia
It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch: strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City, and the local media are baying for blood. Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die.

Great new series to start reading
Revisado: 01-01-19
This book came up as a suggestion in Audible, when I was finishing another book. Decided to follow the Audible recommendation ( not the first time, I have been very happy with what Audible is suggesting to me.
I expected this to be a typical murder investigation, depressed police man who drinks to much 😊 ( yes the location in north scotland ).
This book took me by surprice, it provided much more what I was looking for. Interesting characters, interesting and complex murder plot, etc ( yes I grew up reading Agatha Christie 😊 ). Wheather it is DI Inch, PC Watchon, or any if the other characters from the book. Similary in a aprox 14 hour audio book, the plot is unfolding during the last 3 hours ( not only the last 30 minutes as I see to many times ).
Definently will look for more books from this serie.

Reading this book was an interesting experience. It came up as a suggestion in Audible, as I finished the last one before. I decided to select it even though I had no idea who the author was. After I started reading it, I realized who the real author was.
I almost gave up on this book through the first 1/4 of the book ( at that time I expected to give it 2-3 stars ). As I was getting through the middle of it, it was growing on me ( expecting to give it 3-4 stars ), as often with books by this author the end tends to reach a climatic end. When going into the last quarter of this book, I definitely was having difficulties stopping to read it and was visualizing to give it 4-5 stars.
If you are expecting a lot of action, you will be disappointed. This book is a traditional private eye book, reminded me of something like the Philip Marlowe PI books. A lot of discussions as you are beginning to become familiar with the characters, no high speed action of any sort.
If you are expecting something similar to the Harry Potter books, you will be disappointed. Nothing magical here. This is an old fashion detective novel, describing the shallow world of super models and the fashion world. I really liked it, and I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

Really loved it, should have read it a long time
Revisado: 07-21-18
After reading mostly Nordic Noir, Scandinavian murder mysteries for the past few years, this was a very different environment.
I really loved it, being old enough to remember quite well this period and hearing on the nightly news reports on events described in here, really made the book come to life in my mind.
The story is great, really look forward to read the next one in the Sean Duffy series
