If you're this far into the series, you know exactly what to expect and it delivers. The introduction of Alexander Turov opens up new plot possibilities. Graves shows some personality development. Not sure if that's going anywhere.

A Worthy Ending

Very good - although not the best book of the series. Accomplishes the tricky task of sticking the landing. Bravo "James S A. Corey." I believe you've created a Science Fiction series that will rank with Dune, Foundation and all the other greats.

A Hot Mess

Nowhere near the level of the first two books in the series. The "end of the world" premise never feels credible or creates suspense. The plot is full of holes. Most of the characters are one dimensional. So much time spent on food and geography. The ending is a cop out. But Fergus is a great protagonist and I will read the next book and hope for better.

Bob Kraft Tribute

Unless you're a Patriot fan, pass this one up. Early chapters are interesting but turns into a Bob Kraft love story.

Overwhelming

Extremely welk-researched but there was simply too much detail here for this non-scholar. Seemingly hundreds of characters are mentioned only once and most are presented without much context. You will learn about the impeachment of Andrew Johnson in painful depth but the book was a slog to get through.

A Pleasant Surpise.

After being a bit frustrated with Velocity Weapon, my expectations were not high for this sequel. But O'Keefe greatly widens the scope and dials up the action in this intricately plotted space opera. The supporting cast steps up big and Sanda turns into a kickass Captain Kirk style space hero with idiosyncratic crew and dangerourous super villains. Still a little clumsy in some of the dialogue and character interactions but the story twists and thrill-a- minute action sequences more than compensate.

This book is well written and intricately plotted but lacked any real suspense in the second half - just a gruesome and predictable plod to an inevitable conclusion. The characters and venues of Gilded Age NYC are well-drawn but also unlikeable and unpleasant. Performed competently with all the charm of a police procedural. May be entertaining to goth horror fans but I didn't find any redeeming qualities to the story other than it was on sale for four dollars.

Strong Premise dissolves into Slimy Mold

Disappointing sequel to the outstanding Children of Time introduces two new and ultimately boring life forms. Initially I thought the book was going to work as horror story but Tchaikovsky ultimately chooses to take a much less interesting direction. Drawn-out predictable ending. Had to fight to finish.
