I'm not sure why this is classified as Science Fiction as there is minimal SF content. It could very easily be set here on Earth, in fact I often forgot it was supposed to be set on another planet. Apart from that it was a very enjoyable, well-written standard story - hero escorts heroine on journey, they fall in love, get into and out of danger, HEA.The End. Both main characters were better than the usual - she has been blind since a childhood accident and has learned to deal with adversity. The hero is much more likeable than usual - not so much of the 'Me big Alpha-hero, you little woman', he actually listens to her!

The narrator is excellent, he has a good pace, with a range of clearly defined voices and was a pleasure to listen to. All in all, a very pleasant listen and I would enjoy more by this author.

I enjoyed this in the beginning. The storyline seemed a pleasant and believable continuation of the original book in the first part, but sadly descended to pure melodrama in the later part of the story. Not Jane Austen at all, sadly.
In addition, it gradually became clear that the author was struggling to keep to Miss Austen's style of prose and it became very laboured and contrived. There were also one or two Americanisms - Gotten - ugh! which are not seen in British writing today, let alone in the early part of the 19th century. This completely spoiled the mood for me and I spent the rest of the book too conscious of the language used to be able to fully enjoy it.

For me, the best part was the narration. He voice is clear, her diction good and she coped very well with even the most convoluted of sentences. A pleasure to listen to, even if the book itself was only OK.

For what seems to be a first book, this is terrific. The pacing is good. The story is split into segments, each dealing with a different character, or set of characters, but there is sufficient detail in each for it not to feel as though the story jumps around. There are a few 'cliff-hangers', but nothing is left hanging too long.
The main characters grow and develop from brats to responsible adults who learn to make difficult decisions with maturity. There are some very funny moments, and some equally heart-rending ones too. Some scenes definitely stay with you long after you have finished listening. The aliens too, are rather different to the norm in this type of book.

All in all, a very satisfying book, with the potential for a follow-up.

The narration is a different story altogether. He has a pleasant voice, well-pitched without any of the irritating squeakiness when depicting a woman or a child. It is easy to identify which character is speaking. So far so good. However.
He has the strangest pronunciation of some words I have ever heard. This is not down to the difference between UK and US pronunciation - I am used to that, this is just odd. He also places emphasis on the wrong part of a word, so that you stop and think 'What'? and miss the rest of the sentence. He speaks slowly and clearly, but his pacing ... is often . . very . . jerky. Some of this can be down to editing - a decent editor would have picked up on these issues and at least pointed them out.
It wasn't bad enough to make me stop listening, by any means, but it didn't enhance the story. I found myself becoming more and more irritated as the book progressed, wishing I could edit it so that it flowed more smoothly. It's a shame, because potentially, if these issues can be ironed out, I think he could be up there with the best.

Cardboard cut-out characters and a plot that grew more ridiculous by the chapter made it very difficult to enjoy this.
Very disappointing. I wish I hadn't bothered. I certainly won't be looking for more by this author,
The only saving grace was the narration. Cindy Piller has a pleasant voice and is easy to listen to, but even she can't do too much to help this book along. I'm afraid.

Likeable heroine, less likeable hero, and a pleasant murder mystery. The body count rises and it's fairly obvious who is the villain, but we don't learn why until near the end. Our psychic heroine has an ongoing battle with her MIL, though it isn't obvious that she is dead until late on in the book. A lightweight listen, but enjoyable.

The narration is clear, with good pacing and modulation, characters are well-defined and I would happily listen to other books narrated by her.

Why was there an arson attack on Sarah and Johnny's neighbours' house, which left the adults dead, a small child orphaned and their own home in ruins? Why was Johnny meeting another woman in the woods nearby? These and more questions need to be answered. Sarah's marriage, which seemed so secure is all at once at risk as more and more details emerge.
This is a short book which could easily have been fleshed out with more detail. It ended rather abruptly, with several questions unanswered, particularly the - not unexpected - revelation at the very end.
The narration was good, clear and with each character clearly defined.

Overall, an enjoyable listen

Joshua has loved Hannah since the day she married his brother 6 long years ago, but said nothing. According to the Law, he must marry her after the brother's death, so that a child can inherit his property. This is the story of how they each come to deal with the after effects of an abusive first marriage, and the unfolding treachery of the dead man.

I enjoyed this. As the story unfolds, we see how each of the characters changes and grows as Hannah learns to trust, and Joshua comes to understand just what kind of person the brother he loved really was.

The narrator had a good steady pace which suited the book. Each character was clearly recognisable. without any of the unnecessary exaggerations sometimes used to denote characters of the opposite sex. There were a few rather odd pronunciations, but not enough to distract from the story.
All in all, well worth listening to.

I started this, then went back and bought book 1 and listened to both books back to back over the past 2 days. It is rivetting. This volume deals with Alexis' life under a harsh captain, the crew's mutiny,,, and subsequent consequences thereof. I won't give a synopsis, as it will contain too many spoilers. Suffice it to say, it is partially based on a real life incident in the Royal Navy in the 18th Century.
I can see this standing up to Honor Harrington and others, not in the technical details, but in the character's sense of honour and duty. I hope it will run and run. I can't wait for book 3.

The narration was equally good, though I found it somewhat disconcerting to hear American phrasing coming from a clear 'English' voice. The word 'gotten' for instance is just wrong and sounds completely out of character with the rest of the book. None of which is the narrator's fault. Other than that, clear diction, a good range of accents, both English and 'foreign'. I'd never heard of Elizabeth Klett, but will definitely enjoy listening to other books narrated by her.
All in all, a terrific find.

Where's book 2?

Undramatic beginning which slowly builds in intensity.
After an ISIS attack on the US, knocking out much of the infrastructure, Jim is caught in Richmond Virginia, 300 miles away from home. This is the story of his journey home with his colleagues. At the same time, his wife and family are coping without him, following the instructions he left with them in case of this type of situation. We see how they both cope with the increasingly dangerous situations which arise as the days go on.
This is clearly the first of a series, as Jim's journey is not yet complete and we are left with semi-cliffhanger situations for both groups. This is why I've given it 4 stars rather than 5.

Kevin Pierce is new to me, but I enjoyed listening to him very much. The narration was excellent, clear, undramatic delivery which nevertheless still conveyed the sense of danger surrounding both groups. It was clear which character was speaking, without the exaggerated emphasis some male narrators use to convey when speaking with a woman's voice.

I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2!

Dreadful narration spoils a good book

The plot is not a new one - a family secret held down the centuries hides something so momentous ( I won't tell you what), that people in a particular organisation will kill to find it.
It is well-written, with a good pace, plenty of action, though it is rather violent at times.

Having said that, I didn't finish it and will continue on Kindle, as I want to know what happens.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I couldn't bear to listen to this narrator any more.
Admittedly, there were a large number of characters, but the changes in pace, tone and pitch was painful to listen to and I gave up. Growly voices, squeaky voices, weird accents and everything in between, few of them seemed to fit the characters they were supposed to portray. It became too unbearable, and I had to abandon the attempt.
Such a pity. I do hope a different narrator is chosen for the next book.
