Historia
In this startling group memoir, four friends - Black and White, gay and straight, immigrant and American-born - use Toni Morrison’s novels as a springboard for intimate and revealing conversations about the problems of everyday racism and living whole in times of uncertainty. Tackling everything from first love and Soul Train to police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, the authors take up what it means to read challenging literature collaboratively and to learn in public as an act of individual reckoning and social resistance.

This was racist trash. It was truly sickening to hear the victim mentality and white hatred. With one essay, I kept waiting for the actual terrible incident to occur to explain the author’s rage against white boys. I never found it. Oh, what? He was a jerk? Boys aren’t just jerks to black girls, but maybe the authors simply aren’t aware of that fact.

Kurt Holland wants the best for his younger brother, which is why he moves Sam to Bridgeport, Ohio. It's a bigger town with a well-known high school. Just the place to give his little brother more opportunities - maybe even a scholarship to college. Kurt hopes his gamble pays off, since Sam's future isn't the only thing riding on it. Kurt's put most of his savings into a new landscaping business there, too. But when Sam gets in trouble for fighting at school, Kurt isn't so sure it was the right decision, until he meets Sam's English teacher.

Revisado: 04-23-22
Inconsistent aspects of the plot and some plot points seemed to be just thrown in for the heck of it, often not advancing the story at all. Repetitive in descriptions that were substandard at best. Narrator was terrible and made most male characters sound like meatheads.
But I have a renewed sense of good thanks to this book and others like it. If this is worthy of publishing, then surely my dream of becoming an author will one day come true!
