Katherine Kellgren makes this book. This book is good as a read, but the listen is so much more vivid and entertaining. I can't wait to get the rest of the series.

Note: I can't imagine why this books is categorized for ages 12+ . I would definitely want to shield any teenagers from the sexual harrassment and attempted rape scenes.

Simon Prebble will knock your socks off with his reading of this well written book. Laurens builds up and maintains the sexual tension between the hero and heroine from their very first encounter, but Prebble's performance brings it to life. You will not be disappointed.

Powder and Patch Audiolibro Por Georgette Heyer arte de portada

Simply Delightful!!!

Gerogette Heyer has once again written a story full of memorable and lovable characters. Both the principal and secondary characters are so well written and well performed that you can see them in your mind's eye. Jamie Glover's performance is masterful. You are never at a loss as to who is speaking, or how that person is feeling. Just expertly done! And this book is funny - the transformation of the hero from the macho, masterful country bumpkin to the elegant, languid, bored, poetry-writing English fob is just hilarious!

Disappointed.

I like Elizabeth Lowell's writing and am sorry to give one of her books such a low grade, but I loathe heroes who are cruel to their heroines and in this one, the hero is cruel for almost the whole book. I listened to the entirety hoping (and praying) it would get better, but it didn't.

I also normally like Richard Ferrone, but the whispering voice of the heroine drove me up the wall. I couldn't wait for the story to end.

This was a joy to listen to. It is well written and well read. Judith Ivory can give lessons on how to write sexual tension. The characters are well drawn and lovable, especially the hero. This is a light, funny, engaging story concerned more with the relationship between the protagonists. There is never any doubt in your mind about where they are coming from, or why they do what they do. This was a well-spent credit.

EXCELLENT LISTEN!!

Good performance coupled with a light-hearted, humorous detective story. It reminded me of the film Gosford Park directed by Robert Altman. I like Heyer's romances but was worried her talent would not translate to her mysteries. I was wrong. This was a delightfully entertaining listen.

Extremely Satisfied

I listened the first 3 books of the Otori 3 years ago and just loved them. I found this prequel by chance and couldn't wait to listen to it. This was a very satisfying listen. I was so pleased with the book, that I listened to the other 3 again.

Much that is wonderful in Across the Nightingale Floor (1st book) is the enigma surrounding Shigeru’s motives for finding and harboring Takeo. Shigeru is truly inscrutable and devious and charming. This second time around, a lot of the mystery surrounding Takeo seemed reasonable and ordinary, where it was originally puzzling, strange and exciting.

I would recommend listening to this prequel only after you have already finished Across the Nightingale Floor.

I’ve read this book in hard copy and really liked it. I was curious to see if the listen would measure up. A lot depends on the narrator, and I have listened to Anne Flosnik before and not been impressed. I am happy to say this is one of her better reads. Her performance of the dramatic and pivotal scenes in the book was well done. I will be looking to more listens from her. Hopefully, we will be offered the 2 other books in this trilogy, Forbidden and Enchanted.

At first I could not get into the book and I was irritated with the reader's performance. Most of the characters in this book are young adults that I would not like my own kids to sound like. However, I am glad to say that this was not at all a waste of my time. This is the second Christopher Moore book I have listened to and his absurd but witty outlook shines. I even got to like the narrator's performance once I realized that it went well with the author's view. I especially enjoyed the Abbie Normal Chronicles. Hilarious.
