To much angst and not enough intelligence in story

I can’t finish this book. The characters are both hypercapable in some aspects but then also unbelievably useless in others. Provides a background for lots of self flagellation and angst, but not much else.
How can you continue accepting a “king” who is so cunning and manipulative he has everyone tied in knots and scared of reprisal, yet he allows a blatantly treasonous and shallow son to keep attempting to kill or disable him, and also orders no one else to stop him either. They all bloody deserve it for being so incompetent.

LC’s MHI books are a specific genre so you need to acknowledge they are for pure enjoyment. This one hits the spot. Reads and flows better than some. The audio presentation was clear and smooth. I’d find myself laughing walking down the street at Mr Trashbag’s battle cries. “CONSUME NOSES....”

I find the woman performer almost impossible to understand, and keep missing what she says. Her pronunciation of consonants is just not clear enough. In combination with the accent used and speed of delivery it just becomes a drone. Became too frustrated and abandoned this book.

Engrossing

A surprising treasure. Characterisations both deep, but also light enough to be engaging. Dialogue was intelligently cheeky. Laughed out loud many times.
Storyline well knit.
Delivery and pace one of the best I've heard

A fair tilt at a massive social upheaval scenario but stays connected to characters. Also good that they have frailty.
Performance is clear and paced well, but a bit monotonic. Doesn't have to be David Attenborough, but could humanise a tad more
