Historia
Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Grace’s weekly attic-room dinner parties and window-brewed sun tea become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret of her own.

Historia
Mick “Scorcherˮ Kennedy is the star of the Dublin Murder Squad. He plays by the books and plays hard, and thatʼs how the biggest case of the year ends up in his hands. On one of the half-abandoned “luxuryˮ developments that litter Ireland, Patrick Spain and his two young children have been murdered. His wife, Jenny, is in intensive care. At first, Scorcher thinks itʼs going to be an easy solve, but too many small things can't be explained.

Well written and disturbing
Revisado: 12-09-24
Tana French is an amazing writer however this book is very sad and disturbing. I forgot when I ordered it that others said the same. I could have done without the plot and descriptions upsetting me! I’m an avid reader and Tana French fan but this book is more psychological horror than mystery.

Historia
1985. Anita de Monte, a rising star in the art world, is found dead in New York City; her tragic death is the talk of the town. Until it isn’t. By 1998 Anita’s name has been all but forgotten—certainly by the time Raquel, a third-year art history student is preparing her final thesis. On College Hill, surrounded by privileged students whose futures are already paved out for them, Raquel feels like an outsider. Students of color, like her, are the minority there, and the pressure to work twice as hard for the same opportunities is no secret.

I loved the intelligent complexity of the story (the ghosts) and simplicity of the message. Brava, Xotchitl!

Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Not my usual genre
Revisado: 03-12-24
TTT is not my usual genre. It was recommended to me and from the beginning I was intrigued to enter the world of games and programmers, struggling within themselves and life as it presented itself. Recommended especially to those who would not necessarily think they would be interested. :-)

Historia
In the National Book Award-winning Let the Great World Spin, Colum McCann thrilled readers with a marvelous high-wire act of fiction that The New York Times Book Review called "an emotional tour de force". Now McCann demonstrates once again why he is one of the most acclaimed and essential authors of his generation with a soaring novel that spans continents, leaps centuries, and unites a cast of deftly rendered characters, both real and imagined.

Beautiful in every way
Revisado: 02-28-22
Trans Atlantic is an intricate, intimate story. McCann’s prose is gripping poetry. I listen to Audible books because I spend much of my time quietly doing rather than sitting. Toward the end of TransAtlantic I sat as still as possible to savor every word. I cannot think of any male writer whose voice as a woman is so utterly on point. It will remain on my list of unforgettable novels.
