Revisado: 02-06-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would not recommend this reading.
What was most disappointing about Charles Pricheta’s story?
He can't put together a sentence without great jerky surges of words interspersed with pauses which are irritating to the max.
How could the performance have been better?
Get a better reader

I have tried many time to get through this book but have yet to be able to do so because he is such an irritating person to have to listen to.

Historia
Mixing a bit of seventeenth-century French history with a great deal of invention, Alexandre Dumas tells the tale of young D'Artagnan and his musketeer comrades, Porthos, Athos, and Aramis. Together they fight to foil the schemes of the brilliant, dangerous Cardinal Richelieu, who pretends to support the king while plotting to advance his own power. Bursting with swirling swordplay, swooning romance, and unforgettable figures.

A good easy read. Very in depth persona's but that is Dumas's style
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dartanian of course
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No way you can listen to it in one, two or even three settings.
Any additional comments?
Fun, and funny at times. Shows the intrigue between Royalty and the Church. Both were caniving - but the church was self serving, cruel as well as manipulative of all aspects of life back then..

Historia
A love story serves as backdrop for The Map of the Sky when New York socialite Emma Harlow agrees to marry millionaire Montgomery Gilmore, but only if he accepts her audacious challenge: to reproduce the extraterrestrial invasion featured in Wells's War of the Worlds. What follows are three brilliantly interconnected plots to create a breathtaking tale of time travel and mystery, replete with cameos by a young Edgar Allan Poe, and Captain Shackleton and Charles Winslow from The Map of Time.

I read ALL my audio and Kindle books over again - simply to catch nuances I may have missed the first time through
Have you listened to any of James Langton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first time I have read this author. I put him on my 3rd tier of preferred authors.
Any additional comments?
Almost any book is worth reading. This includes "The map of the sky" which I would rate as worthy but not by any means exciting and stimulating.

Historia
The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

A story of the realities of war.
Revisado: 12-26-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Though it was tough to actually sit and listen to the story, knowing that it either true or based on one such incident or even a general description based on many (rather general) story and their gory details.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Man?
Since I am only half way through I already have enough knowledge and experience to know the scope and possible killings (etc), double crosses and such - I know what to expect and will not be surprised at any variations on a theme.
Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Very well performed.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Definitely. Extreme might be a understatement. Reality is often eye opening and stomach wrenching.
Any additional comments?
Don't be surprised if this become a movie. I would venture to say that the chances are QUITE strong that it will either be on the big screen or on TV. Most likely "Big Screen" material in my humble opinion.

Historia
Citizen of the Galaxy takes place far in the future, when the human race has spread out to colonize other planets. In a slave market in the capital of Jubbul and the Nine Worlds, an auctioneer announces, "Lot 97. A boy." Slavery is commonplace in Jubbul, and the sight of the ragged, starving boy, Thorby, on the auction block is not unusual. What does puzzle bystanders and Thorby himself is his purchase by crippled Baslim, the beggar who sits every day in a corner of the marketplace.

I hesitated purchasing this book but glad I did.
Revisado: 12-24-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Citizen of the Galaxy to be better than the print version?
Probably. I always thought that I could better visualize a good book by listening and just let my mind envision (MY) sense of reality rather than try to see it through the authors eyes.
What other book might you compare Citizen of the Galaxy to and why?
---- Almost anything by Robert Heinlein or Issac Asimov.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I loved the logic and growth of the subjects and how they overcame their fears and dealt with the harsh reality of a society that the use of slavery was considered normal and completely accepted by the government.

Historia
Just a generation ago this place was called America. Now, after the worldwide implementation of UN-lead program called Agenda 21, it's simply known as the 'Republic'. There is no president. No congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom. There are only the Authorities. Citizens have two primary goals in the new Republic: to create clean energy and to create new human life. Those who cannot do either are of no use to society. This bleak and barren existence is all that 18-year-old Emmeline has ever known.

- De: Glenn Beck

realistic & based on Liberal mindset of the future
Revisado: 12-24-12
If you could sum up Agenda 21 in three words, what would they be?
How would you survive the Ideal Liberal prison camps for producing soldiers for your army while living a minimal existence on food cubes and forced propaganda. Give birth to a child and never get to EVER see or hold that child because the government keeps them in child rearing facilities because some empty headed theorist thinks their way is more efficient in producing children that will be their ideal soldier, subject.
In other words - submissive and not willing to question authority in ANY manner.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Agenda 21?
When the main characters were making their final attempt to escape, he held back and she was afraid he was having second thoughts.
It was only that the was watching a fire he had started to divert the community to make sure it would not affect the children's hospital, school, dormitory.
After he clearly saw that the facility was safe did he crawl under the fence and join the 3 others (his wife, their child and one other child) and made good their escape.
What does January LaVoy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I could never accept being a prisoner and would have recognized many ways of escaping and would do so or die trying.
Any additional comments?
This is the future that many in the European Union, Russia and even here in the US think would be best for the human race.
Feed the squirrels and birds but give humans minimal rations (vegan of course) until they died from lack of will or just outright starvation, bit by bit, by bit.

Will this be our new reality? "Fraid" so
Revisado: 12-24-12
Would you listen to Patriots again? Why?
again and again and again. -- WHY?
Because the ideas for survival against not only random raiders but also against Government Run Amok is prophetic.
So many techniques for protecting yourself, your home, any battle position is wonderfully thought out.
The book shows how a little bit a knowledge, commonsense and hard work can help you through a difficult time.
The people in this book evolved from simple (and widely diverse) backgrounds but from them came creative, sensible techniques and modifications of basic material into usable means to survive just about anything that could be thrown at them - starvation, hoodlums out to kill, government killing and imprisoning all resistance, how to grow food, how to camafloge signs of just about anything you wish to hide from prying eyes, how to keep gasoline from going sour during times of shortages, and on and on.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
So many good, logical and creative solutions that I can use now and may have to in a future that may not be so pleasant.
Which scene was your favorite?
SO many but the one that broke my heart yet inspired me was when one of the compound residents became Sherri f for a local town and how he (single handed) held off hundreds of professional soldiers.
The soldiers thought they were fighting a large well armed and skilled team when it was but one man, using techniques that confused and put the fear of God into them.
Even when he had been mortally wounded he held his ground until night caused them to retreat and allowed him to die in peace.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Will this happen to us and if so - are you prepared?
Any additional comments?
You don't need to be a survivalist nut job to survive. Logic, strategy and willingness to live another day in hopes that you can live free from tyranny and injustice is what is necessary.
The will to persist on your own terms.

John Galt, the fictional character from Ayn Rand's best-selling novel Atlas Shrugged has come to embody the individualist capitalist who acts in his own enlightened self interest, and in doing so lifts the world around him. Some of today's most successful CEOs, journalists, sports figures, actors, and thinkers have led their lives according to Galt's (i.e., Rand's) philosophy. Now, in I Am John Galt, these inspiring stories are gathered with the keen insight and analysis of well-known market commentator Donald Luskin and business writer Andrew Greta.

John Galt is in many of us.
Revisado: 12-22-12
If you could sum up I Am John Galt in three words, what would they be?
This review is meant for the Died in the Wool individualist, industrialist, capitalist, or anyone yearning to be free from our tyrannical government which has become so corrupted (from both parties) that we want to hear words from others who are willing to wait it out and let the system crumble so that we may return to reclaim Liberty and Freedom as our Forefathers envisioned and that we used to be a part of.
All hail John Galt. We are waiting for the right moment and conditions to strike and get back that which has been lost.
What did you like best about this story?
I don't nitpick on parts I like best. It is the complete story and theme that I want to inspire me and those like me who are always ready to fight our corrupt government.
Which character – as performed by Alex Hyde-White – was your favorite?
I absorb the facts regardless of characters. I am interested in motivation and vision only
