Historia
Rain slicked streets, riots, murder, chaos. It’s July 1992 and the Troubles in Northern Ireland are still grinding on after twenty-five apocalyptic years. Detective Inspector Sean Duffy got his family safely over the water to Scotland, to “Shortbread Land”. Duffy’s a part-timer now, only returning to Belfast six days a month to get his pension. It’s an easy gig, if he can keep his head down.

I love Sean Duffy
Revisado: 03-18-25
Gerard Doyle voicing Sean Duffy has been a delight for the last 7 audiobooks and the 8 the one continues this trend. Adrian Mckinty has figured out an incredible recipe for a police thriller. I love Sean Duffy's character, he has everything, he's funny, I love his dry wit and sarcasm, he's brave and self righteous almost to a fault, he stands up to the man, he takes care of his friends, he knows his classical music, poetry, he loves his vinyls and isn't afraid to preach what "good" music sounds like. the stories are intricate and the background of the Troubles in northern Ireland always give the books a gritty theme and make the characters even more sympathetic and lovable. I can't say enough good things about this book - Adrian Mckinty, please don't let this be the last Sean Duffy case!!!

Historia
Author, curmudgeon and master of the complaining letter and the abusive email Ed Reardon is back for a 15th series. Further thoughts on the world from the much loved (if flawed) writer perpetually on the brink of the breadline. Will he take a chance on success, or stay in his cosy, rather fetid rut? Hope springs eternal.

Ed reardon is a gem!
Revisado: 11-08-24
I have been listening to Ed Reardon's week on BBC sounds for many years (all 15 series) and I absolutely love him and the show. Ed is the most lovable, fallible and unlucky curmudgeon you'll meet... with a cat (Elgar) who has the most suited personality. I can't recommend this audiobook enough, if you like a comedy of errors with the best catchphrases and incredible literary fiction level writing.
as you can see I'm a proper fan

Historia
Stephen Mangan and Alistair McGowan star in the fantastical BBC Radio 4 comedy by Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto. When fantasy novelist Sam is whisked off to Lower Earth by a band of noble warriors, his dog Amis goes with them. Transformed into human form, Amis turns out to be The Chosen One, whom the warriors need to help find the Sword of Asnagar. Only with the sword can they save Lower Earth from the evil rule of Lord Darkness.

amazing BBC gem
Revisado: 06-13-24
I feel like this review is for a very niche community of BBC radio4 sitcom lovers. I was in desperate search for a gem similar to the other great ones (names below) and elvenquest hit the spot! great acting by all esp Stephen Mangan and Darren Boyd (from Outlaws!).
it's very fast paced and I never wanted it to end :)
If this is your jam, you may also like Cabin pressure, Ed reardon's week, In and out of the kitchen, Clare in the community, Old Harry's game, Hut 33, John Finnemore's souvenir programme, The pin... and so many more. if this is your jam, please recommend me some others :)

poorly written, no real substance
Revisado: 01-29-24
I was skeptical buying this book having read the reviews but gave it a chance since it was on the FT books of the year shortlist. it was a bad idea. I've read through so many pages with ZERO new information on AI. I can't think of one new fact I've learnt half way through the book. The author uses every metaphor under the sun to describe the issue even using examples like cold war and then immediately saying it's not a good analogy. Then why use it in the first place?!
It seems like the author knew it's a good time to publish a book on AI so went ahead and wrote a train of thought book with mostly irrelevant and unconnected information in it. I haven't finished it yet but not having high hopes, seems like a lot of page filler stories to build up the hype on the risks of AI.
