Takes way too long to get to the point
Revisado: 08-18-18
The author draws out the initial story for way too long, when they could have just told it from the beginning. The story it self is not even a great story, so taking so long to reveal the story just adds frustration instead of suspense.

Historia
The lives of Cyra Noavek and Akos Kereseth are ruled by their fates, spoken by the oracles at their births. The fates, once determined, are inescapable. Akos is in love with Cyra, in spite of his fate: He will die in service to Cyra’s family. And when Cyra’s father, Lazmet Noavek - a soulless tyrant, thought to be dead - reclaims the Shotet throne, Akos believes his end is closer than ever. As Lazmet ignites a barbaric war, Cyra and Akos are desperate to stop him at any cost.

Not the same type of book as the first
Revisado: 04-14-18
This book has too much sexual like content and too little story. It lacks the detail that the first book had and is split between too many perspectives.

Historia
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

Tried to be Lovecraft and failed
Revisado: 02-20-18
Any additional comments?
This book is awful. It's just like a love craft rip off with none of the wonder, fear, or overwhelming since of creepiness that Lovecraft gives his reader. The story just doesn't have any feeling of connection to a real human experience. Also when the author uses the word psychologist, I don't think that word means what you think it means. I get that he might be giving his interpretation of what he thinks the word might mean in the future but it does not follow a logic progression. Maybe the movie will be better, but the book is awful.

I loved this book. I liked how it went into the mind of a character type that is not normally explored. I also enjoyed the story. I do not usually read mystery or suspense novels that have no scifi or fantasy elements, but this one is fantastic.

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

poor rating is because of audible book math
Revisado: 08-30-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not as well spent as listening to Ready Player One was.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
This book is really good at focusing on the ugly parts of life that people try to ignore.
What does Ari Fliakos bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ever character in the book has a unique sound that seems to fit their character.
Do you think The Nix needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No this book serves it's purpose. Which is to paint the world as a dirty piece of coal that has little hope of turning into a diamond.
Any additional comments?
I rated this book as only being average because in audible book math they said that this book was like Ready Player One and this book misses all the crucial elements of Ready Player One. Ready Player One presents a world state that is worse than the one that we live in, yet there is hope and triumph that comes out of the story. The Nix offers a cynical perspective of how the state of the world currently is yet offers no hope for the future, except in that everyone should just accept the fact that everyone's life sucks. The only similarities that the books do indeed have is that the main character and one other character in The Nix play mmos and a character from the main characters past played joust missile command and other old school games. In Ready Player One video games offer hope in what is otherwise a bleak world. In The Nix video games are viewed poorly and even blamed for physical and neurological conditions (while stating which functions of the brain video games effect negatively while having no actual proof that video games do this). Video Games are even the cause of the main character losing his job. Their are no fun 80's and 90's pop culture references and little to no humor at all.

An amazing journey through tears and trauma.
Revisado: 07-03-17
This book connect with me on a human level that I think is rarely possible.
This book brings up all of the pain that a person can go through and the beauty of the love that can come from that pain.
This is not an easy book to listen to, as it challenges it's reader to grow as a human being. If you can get through this book though, it will feel like it changed your life for the better.

Great story horrible ending
Revisado: 07-03-17
I loved getting to know the characters in this book, and this book had such real and complex characters.
The issue I had with this book is that it all seemed to be adding up to one interaction that never happens in book. By the time I got to the end of the book I said you've got to be kidding it can't be ending here. The book then ended. I was angry at this book for weeks because of that.
If you do like this story and wanted a better pay off, like I did, then I would suggest watching an animated move called Marry and Max.

Historia
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful - and cruel - father. Now Scarlett's father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. But this year Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend.

Fun story ruined by the ending
Revisado: 04-17-17
The story felt like an amazing adventure at first. By the end though, I realized I was just being treated like an infant, and the adventure was just a trip around the cul-de-sac that leads you absolutely nowhere. Also there is a plan for another book and this should of been a standalone story.

Great serious story
Revisado: 12-22-16
Another fantastic work by what is becoming one of my favorite authors. Such great insights and comments on what it is to be human. Also such a fantastic but not okay (doesn't follow "the rules") ending. Just like with The Girl With All The Gifts, it makes you feel like you just lived a long and satisfying life with a fantastic lover but your still sad to see her go when it's all over. The lover being the book it's self not any particular character so no spoilers there.
Oh and the narrator is phenomenal, one of the best.
