The story wanders, in a stream of consciousness fashion, providing a litany of fluid-centric trivia. Unfortunately, the only unifying element of the book is the narrators notional airplane trip. It's not clear why the discussed liquids were selected and their examination is limited to elementary school-level science. The book feels like an amalgam of podcast episodes. The saving feature is the narration. The narrator is animated and saves the work from the very real potential for droning monotony.

Long on regional history, short on tigers.

I was hoping for an exciting story of a man-eating tiger. What I got was hours of painstaking detail on the social and political history of Southern Asia (occasionally mentioning some tiger attacks). It wasn't uninteresting but it was not what I was after.

It started off promising then turned into a weak retelling of Swayze in Roadhouse. Maybe I'm just missing the joke but I want my hour back.

I went into this expecting to enjoy passing a few hours but not much more than that. I was so wrong. The characters, storyline, and narration were the best I've heard in a long time. It's perfectly balanced science and fiction, with some drama for seasoning. The story sucks you along without relying on overdone deep future technology and is completely plausible with minimal suspension of disbelief. You forget the genre and just enjoy the story of some people and an exciting adventure. This is a must read.

The first disappointing Revalations book

This one falls short of the other Revalations novels. The story seem incompletly developed and the characters aren't particularly well developed. The strong narration helps make up for the iffy characters and cheesy ending but can only do so much. I hope this story line dies here and doesn't taint the series going forward.

Mack Bolan but less

If you're looking for a psuedo-spook shoot-em-up, this isn't bad. The characters are kinda one-dimensional and cliche and the plot isn't particularly creative but it has all the classic Mack Bolan elements: a tough-guy protagonist, amoral arch villian, semi-techincal descriptions of weaponry, and night parachute insertions.
The narration is very well done and carries what could have been a total dud into a somewhat enjoyable listen. Not terrible but I won't be buying the rest of the series.
