Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Sad to Say
Revisado: 11-23-24
I love Louise Penny and will remain a faithful reader to this series that means so much to me. I make this declaration because I feel so disappointed by this book. It felt like tired material meets an unrealistic, difficult to follow plot. The heart was missing, the strong character of Gamache that inspires me was shown to us as flash card reminders of old memories and not a new study of the nature of man. I am sure there will be great books in this series again but this was not one of them.

Historia
From New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Freida McFadden comes the next installment of the unbelievably twisty, tension-packed and globally bestselling Housemaid series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone listen: and once you start, it will have you up all night until the final explosive twist.

This Was Terrible—I don’t say that often
Revisado: 07-05-24
I can often find redeeming qualities in the books I listen to, but this one was a challenge. It was so slow. It played into stereotypes and cliched personal struggles. And the experience of the 9 and 11 year old children were so developmentally inaccurate for the type of stable home they came from, that I almost threw the book, er my phone…
This is just the tip of the iceberg —I don’t want to give this book any more of my time by continuing to review all that was bad.
You have been warned. Frieda can do better and this book should have never left her regrettable drafts.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

The Naturalists Murder Mystery
Revisado: 10-23-18
What a stunning surprise! Had I known my literary loves,!E.O. Wilson and Agatha Christie had a baby and named her Delia Owens, I would have listened to this book the moment it came out! I just finished the book, but I linger in the landscape Owens painted with her words and Campbell brought to life. Listen to this book, if just to be reminded how great writing can open your heart to greater empathy and experience. This book was an unexpected gift that I could not turn off—everything a good book should be.

Historia
In How Children Succeed, Paul Tough introduced us to research showing that personal qualities like perseverance, self-control, and conscientiousness play a critical role in children's success. Now, in Helping Children Succeed, Tough takes on a new set of pressing questions: What does growing up in poverty do to children's mental and physical development? How does adversity at home affect their success in the classroom, from preschool to high school?

Succinct, Timely, and Inspiring
Revisado: 07-03-16
Paul Tough has written another insightful book that highlights the education crisis in the US. This time he expands in the ideas of his last book, to offer proven strategies from educational, cognitive and developmental research. He has a great way of making the research digestible and succinct--allowing it t guide best practices, not his own personal narrative. A great read/listen for people of all backgrounds.
