Historia
Margerie Croft yielded up her virginity before her wedding and then fled from her eager suitor, knowing that she could not marry a man she did not love. Now she is viewed as soiled goods, fit only for the role of courtier's plaything. Virgil Elton is King Henry VIII's physician, working on a tonic to restore his sovereign's flagging libido. But first it must be tested.

stilted reading was a bummer
Revisado: 07-29-22
I liked the story and how it built on the last 2, but the reading is not good, particularly when depicting male speech. There's a line toward the end of the book that may explain the decision to read that way, but it was not the right decision.

Nearly everyone swears - whether it's over a few too many drinks, in reaction to a stubbed toe, or in flagrante delicto. And yet we sit idly by as words are banned from television and censored in books. We insist that people excise profanity from their vocabularies, and we punish children for yelling the very same dirty words that we'll mutter in relief seconds after they fall asleep. Swearing, it seems, is an intimate part of us that we have decided to selectively deny.

Great mix of scholarship and FUN

I inherited my vocabulary from my father, so I'll probably give him this for Father's Day. An unusually good reading by the author made it more amusing and accessible.

In her famed TED talk, Sheryl Sandberg described how women unintentionally hold themselves back in their careers. Her talk, which has been viewed more than eleven million times, encouraged women to “sit at the table,” seek challenges, take risks, and pursue their goals with gusto.

Nothing new
Revisado: 04-13-13
Would you listen to Lean In again? Why?
The narrator's voice is annoying. The narrator is about the same age as the author, and they both have oddly young voices (I listened to Sandberg's TED talk for comparison). It was distracting.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Too bad I didn't learn anything new.
Did Elisa Donovan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
This question doesn't really apply to nonfiction.
