Historia
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?

when the tears come don't stop till the end
Revisado: 07-12-24
the most intense and yet pure romance I have ever experienced. both the story and the voices play your heart like a delicate harp. this is possibly surpassing any previous interpretations of Shakespeare I have ever read and kept me from sleeping till 5:00 a.m. though the bards language still brings me joy whenever I hear it, this story lifts it out of youthful stupid to adult committed passion the kind that gives fire to the stars for it is sacrificial love that creates and redeems, even through sacrifice. this is a brilliantly lived out definition of the Greek concept of Agape love and if you survive to the end of the story you will be better for it.
I recommend this book and performance.

Drew Hayes' intricate plotting come alive with powerful acting talents
Revisado: 06-12-24
the voices are so good you can easily track who is talking and they add personalities all their own to the plot. the story (you did start with book one right?) is both intricate and wise in its understanding of human motivations and cultural pressures. I found this book and performance a clear and present danger to my sleep hours as I kept wanting just a bit more. in that sense deviding each book into three parts is a safety feature. I am afraid to be specific because the seamlessly crafted plot has gentle foreshadowing while twists that seem to perfectly fit once revealed.
I recommend this book and performance. Blessings all, Rev Michael Burgess

Historia
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

people you care about and a new way of seeing dnd and self
Revisado: 05-11-24
This starts out with a group of player characters that with one exception I would never play with again (we all know players like that) however hold on for you quickly meet people you will fall in love with. the style of the book is delightful Drew Hayes, the inner core of nobility and self discovery shines brightly. the voice acting works very well and the story does Not end in a cliff hanger, but it does leave you hungry for more. with no spoilers I truly belive you will have a wonderful time. I recommend this book. Blessings to you all. Rev Michael Burgess

gestalt, truly a sum greater than its parts unusually intense space opera
Revisado: 02-01-24
first this audio book has caused me to get behind on my paperwork and sleep. you have been warned.
next, this story is reminiscent of the great classic space operas of the Golden age. in particular it has some of the huge and speedy feel of the Lensemen or Skylark series of EE Doc Smith. the series builds on itself, even though each book is complete within itself it is best enjoyed by reading them in order.
Also the performance is first rate, I particularly love the voice of the captain who has the of a somewhat world weary private detective that sees what no one else does and then has to prepare for everything going wrong. He broods wonderfully while trying to save the galaxy. Each of the characters has wonderful personalities and distinct voices and speaking styles.
The performance convinces me to keep track of this reader in the future, the writing is also professional and edited. All the plot elements flow from each other and blend with no logical jarring to break your suspension of disbelief.
that is as much as I can say without going into spoilers and the reveals are such a delight that I don't want to damage them for you.
I recommend this book and performance and if you have the time I encourage you to jump in. Blessings, Rev. Michael.

it flowed and the Narrator was surprisingly good
Revisado: 08-03-23
if you have fallen in love with Dr Nathan Lowell's universe following Ishmael Wang around this will comfort that need. if it is your first encounter it can stand alone with all the necessary background given in easily digestible bites. it well be better if you start with Quarter Share, but that us not required. it is not just a cozy space opera, it is also a mystery who done it that unfolds with stately grace to a very satisfying conclusion. there is no cliff hanger, just a strong desire to find out what happens next and let the smooth prose flow around you, finding heroism in ordinary people and hidden depth when you look past the surface. I recommend this book and this audio performance. Blessings, Rev Michael

Historia
The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

Almost as good as her heart striker series
Revisado: 05-30-23
First the Narrator is gifted and did a brilliant job breathing life into the different characters. I missed a great deal of sleep listening to the world unfold.
Second the characters are three dimensional and the story flows logically, consistently, and with professional level writing and editing. Something we can no longer take for granted with modern books. I am frustrated by hints of emotional movement between our two protagonist that the two seem to be oblivious to (perhaps it reflects too much of my own romantic blindness). I am hoping for some movement in a future novel as our heroine recovers from childhood emotional deprivation and only conditional love. Since she is very smart I expect she should figure out that every single date she goes out on in college ghosts her for the second date was caused by her possessive father, as is obvious to all the rest of us. Also leaving her best friend and roommate to protect her is a continuing of the emotional isolation of her family of origin, not a true healing act.
If I can get fussed with a character needing to grow towards self acceptance and love of another then it demonstrates our author has made them real in my mind and that is the mark of a very good author worthy of your time and support.
I think you find this book a rewarding listen or read. Blessings, Michael Burgess
