Historia
In January of 2015, I stood in an upper room of the Brooklyn Borough in New York City to see the St. Francis of Assissi exhibition. I reflected on our own history as a young church - our own cycles of decline and renewal, crisis and change. I specifically thought about the current crisis catering on rejecting behavior towards the queer Latter-day Saints.

Historia
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".

Historia
Compared to the Puritans, Mormons have rarely gotten their due, often treated as fringe cultists or marginalized polygamists unworthy of serious examination. In Kingdom of Nauvoo, Benjamin E. Park excavates the brief, tragic life of a lost Mormon city, demonstrating that the Mormons are essential to understanding American history writ large. Using newly accessible sources, Park re-creates the Mormons' 1839 flight from Missouri to Illinois.

Fascinating
Revisado: 07-13-21
Dr. Park has written an excellent, well-researched, and objective history of Nauvoo and this segment of Mormon history, with a particular focus on Joseph Smith (Nauvoo was called The City of Joseph, after all).
The structure of the chapters (Soil, Seeds, Roots, Trunk, Branches, Fruit, Harvest) allows for a fascinating unfolding of a story that is at times both incredibly inspiring and terribly disturbing. Dr. Park's incorporation of the newly released Council of Fifty meeting minutes into the narratives adds depth and a new perspective, missing from prior accounts.
I found the book riveting and highly informative. I strongly recommend it.
