Historia
Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

Also check out Sweeping Changes by Gary Thorp. It isn’t in audiobook form, but it covers similar ground in a truly profound and nuanced way. The life wisdom it contains is universal and isn’t just for minimalists.
Goodbye, Things is a great read for anyone in the tidying up journey and open to minimalism as a path.

Inspiration for how to treat your home as a temple
Revisado: 01-26-23
This book is a lovely introduction to lessons from the lifestyle of a monk. I recommend this book if you are looking for inspiration for discipline.
The only thing that felt like it lacked nuance was how overly simple the author stated a direct correlation between messy/dirty rooms and the “purity” of one’s mind. “Purity” might not translate in quite the same way to a Western context because of Christian ideas of purity. So that that bit with a grain of salt or be open to what it means to “purify” in a Buddhist context.

I recommend cultivating a zazen practice before delving into this book. Connections are likely to be so much easier to see. Also, I find the key is Tea.

Historia
As the climate veers toward catastrophe, the innumerable losses cascading through the biosphere make vividly evident the need for a metamorphosis in our relation to the living land. For too long we've inured ourselves to the wild intelligence of our muscled flesh, taking our primary truths from technologies that hold the living world at a distance. This audiobook subverts that distance, drawing listeners ever deeper into their animal senses in order to explore, from within, the elemental kinship between the body and the breathing Earth.

a life changer
Revisado: 07-26-18
I put this book among the pantheon of soul excavating and deeply grounding books that have helped me expand my understanding of the world and my relationship to it. I will be recommending this book to all of my friends looking to do a bit of soul work.
Like the authors listed below, David Abram is an amazing narrator of his own work. His wisdom and inner peace come through in his voice. Yet, his passion for these profound and consequential perspectives makes his reading aloud inspiring and motivating.
If you like this book I would suggest Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, The Unlikely Peace at Cuchumaquic by Martin Prechtel, Tea Medicine by Wu De (Aaron Fisher), and anything by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

Historia
All ancient and indigenous peoples insisted their knowledge of plant medicines came from the plants themselves and not through trial-and-error experimentation. Less well known is that many Western peoples made this same assertion. There are, in fact, two modes of cognition available to all human beings - the brain-based linear and the heart-based holistic. The heart-centered mode of perception can be exceptionally accurate and detailed....

Lovely book full of intriguing ideas and inspiring quotes. Now I need to read Walden.
While a polished recording, the reader's voice is a little too formal. I would have preferred this in a woman's gentle voice since we hear enough male voices in this world.
A good book for opening minds and hearts. Practical tips for how to get out of your brain and sense with your heart.

One of the best audiobooks out there
Revisado: 05-15-18
Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes is an amazing storyteller and narrator. Her voice is so soothing for your ears and soul. I have a hard time finding books narrated by women. I notice how much I am bombarded by men's voices and am glad to always find a stellar book by CPE. If you like this book you might also like Braiding Sweetgrass.
