Historia
Marjorie Morningstar is a love story. It presents one of the greatest characters in modern fiction: Marjorie, the pretty 17-year-old who left the respectability of New York's Central Park West to join the theater, live in the teeming streets of Greenwich Village, and seek love in the arms of a brilliant, enigmatic writer.

Unsatisfying and frustrating
Revisado: 04-06-24
I have enjoyed Herman Wouk’s other work, and MM has long been on my “should” read list. The narration is very well performed. However, I found the story itself to be plodding, redundant and somewhat indulgent. I should have followed my gut and quit this one.

Historia
On Memorial Day in Jewel, Minnesota, the body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. The investigation falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service. Even before Dern has the results of the autopsy, vicious rumors begin to circulate that the killer must be Noah Bluestone, a Native American WWII veteran who has recently returned to Jewel with a Japanese wife.

I am a big fan and have read several of WKK’s books. The River,,,, is another strong addition to his excellent body of work. Well written, Thoughtful. Entertaining storytelling even when the story becomes unpleasant or difficult. This one will stay with me.

The adventure continues! In this second installment of the trilogy there are plenty of twists and turns as good tries to win over evil a second time.

Good, but my advice is to buy the book!

This is a wonderful book and a great guided journey. For me, some books are not best-suited to the audio format (especially since I like to listen while exercising or multitasking). Chapters are short and include thoughtful exercises that I found were most effective when I focused and wrote them in my journal. I had ordered the book but started the audiobook while waiting for it to arrive. Now I’m totally using the printed book. If you’re called to this book as an investment in yourself, congratulations. Take the time to do it right regardless of the format that works best for you.

Beautifully written. Awesomely performed and produced. The impressive cast is a perfect complement to Neil Gaiman’s narration.

Historia
February 1862. The Civil War is less than one year old. The fighting has begun in earnest, and the nation has begun to realize it is in for a long, bloody struggle. Meanwhile, President Lincoln’s beloved eleven-year-old son, Willie, lies upstairs in the White House, gravely ill. In a matter of days, despite predictions of a recovery, Willie dies and is laid to rest in a Georgetown cemetery. “My poor boy, he was too good for this earth,” the president says at the time. “God has called him home.”

Read the book
Revisado: 01-25-20
This is an outstanding book, but due to the footnoting references in the formatting it does not translate well to audio format. I started with audio and had to give up after an hour's worth of concerted effort. This is no fault of the narrator's, whose performance is quite good. The problem again is with the formatting. After giving up on the audio and picking up a printed book, I enjoyed it very much.
