Historia
Working with the full cooperation of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith have accessed a wealth of previously untapped materials. While drawing liberally from the artist's famously eloquent letters, they have also delved into hundreds of unpublished family correspondences, illuminating with poignancy the wanderings of Van Gogh's troubled, restless soul. Naifeh and Smith bring a crucial understanding to the larger-than-life mythology of this great artist.

Historia
Art & Fear explores the way art gets made, the reasons it often doesn't get made, and the nature of the difficulties that cause so many artists to give up along the way. This is a book about what it feels like to sit in your studio or classroom, at your wheel or keyboard, easel or camera, trying to do the work you need to do. It is about committing your future to your own hands, placing free will above predestination, choice above chance. It is about finding your own work.

Excellent book on making art

I have listened to this book many, many times. If you're making art (or used to, but are stuck), it's a good listen.

Historia
This audiobook is for highly sensitive people who have felt out of place in the modern world. It provides a narrative that describes how they fit into a lineage of creatives throughout history. Jacob Nordby offers a bold new definition of success in the modern era. "The only success now is living and creating a work-of-art life: unique, rich with meaning, naked of anything we don't care about, and ruthless about carving out something absolutely real from a world that has gorged itself on fakeness and become critically ill from it."

Historia
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 05-29-21
The author is authentic, vulnerable and has a good reading voice but the joys of sobriety are a small part of this book. The majority of the book describes the pain of not being sober, how hard it is to get sober, how deprived the author felt when she became sober and so forth... all expressed very well like one friend confiding in another, but just not what I was expecting.

Not as helpful as I expected
Revisado: 09-15-20
If you keep an actionable to do list & a calendar of some kind you DON'T need this book.
If you rely only on your brain to keep track of what you need to do then you DO need this book.
Should you consciously ask yourself what the desired outcome & actionable item is on every item on your to do list? I didn't get value from that.
Say you have to buy dog food, pay insurance, call back your client, complete a new submission, turn in a report, call back your teammember, pick up a kid from the dentist, put air in your tire, pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy, its 4:45pm oh and is that your boss calling?
This book probably isn't going to help you with that, just my opinion.
