To sit down and read the entirety of all seven books of The Chronicles of Narnia series would be a long assignment, but everyone should be exposed to CS Lewis' epic work at least once in their life, and there is no better way or value than this well narrated audiobook which includes not just the first, but all of the books in the series.

I bought this because I am a fan of Roberta Williams' legacy in computer gaming. But as a fan of the Victorian Era, I was delightfully immersed in the cultural atmosphere of the period. It may tell the story of her heritage in the Potato Famine days of 1847 Ireland, but it reads with all the flourish of a good novel.

Keep Your Word, Don't Make Assumptions, Don't Take Things Personally, and Do Your Best. But the book is so much more than that.

It is all about forgiving yourself without making excuses, loving without allowing yourself to be hurt, and accepting peace in life regardless of the outcome.

It is not a terribly long listen - and one I've come back to for a repeat listen. These are life lessons which I have applied practically in my life, which have helped me - and I wouldn't doubt, could help anyone.

Regardless of the question of whether Hitler escaped to Argentina, there is no question that this book immerses The Listener in the period of Nazi Germany at the end of World War II and adds color and context to the legacy of this part of History. A worthy listen!

The relationship between Inflation, Deflation, Technology, Politics, Authoritarianism, Liberalism, Human Psychology, Perception, and Evolution is important because we so easily overlook the scope and influence of technology driven change when considering conventional issues facing the day. This book does not seem to have any agenda, other than providing thoughtful insights which are - at the very least - worth hearing. At 5 hours in length, it is also reasonably easy to get thru without being a huge time sink.

Coming of Age Tale of a Generation!

The story is about a crumbling mid-21st century America, where virtual reality gaming is prized over real life, where poverty is on the rise while corporations become increasingly evil and politics becomes increasingly fickle. In this sense, the narrative is a serious, poignant statement about the dangers of media consumption and the risks we face as we face the future.

It is, then, remarkable that in the telling of such a dark tale, the book also serves as a fantasy fiction unlike any other. It is, as much as it is the depiction of a hopeless, dystopian future, also an eloquent celebration of all the genius, fun, and innovation of classic gaming, of the eighties and early nineties popular tech culture, and of the people like Wozniak and Jobs who laid foundations for today's digital age.

Despite its portrayal of a next-generation incarnation of virtual reality, this is also a journey back in time to the simpler days of Apple II computers, floppy discs, and DOS. It is a monument to a simpler time when computers did less, and inspired human imagination more. It is a lively, colorful rendering of everything that I remember loving about simple Adventure games such as those released by Sierra On-Line, and a hearty acknowledgement of all those eighties and nineties kids who found an escape and a pastime unlike anything ever experienced before or after.

Finally, this is a story which reminds us of the things which are truly important in life; the sense of imagination and adventure, the enlightening power of technology to make our lives more vibrant, and also the importance of discovering love and purpose beyond the digital world. It makes you think. It makes you laugh. It makes you remember. It makes you want to go play pac man, while eating a slice of pizza. This book makes the reader feel young again, and it is one wild, wonderful ride which is as serious-minded as it is just plain zanny.

All that being said, however, it should also be noted that the book and the movie couldn't be further apart. The movie is so different from the book that their stories scarcely even share any similarity at all. This is not to say that the film adaptation isn't worth seeing. In it's own right, it holds it's own just fine as popcorn-eating entertainment: But at the end of the day, Ready Player One is not about action sequences and special effects. This is a commentary about a past which many of us grew up in throughout our formative years. This is, at its heart, the coming of age story of our generation.

As a footnote, the narrator does a terrific job of bringing this book to life. Indeed, so vivid is the portrayal and detail, so true it is to its nostalgic spirit, you will swear that you yourself were transported into The OASIS: And all that without even needing to put on your visor or haptic gloves.

It would be impossible to produce a more eloquent reading of what has become an overwhelmingly popular piece of literature. As the story goes, for those who have watched the films only, the book brings an added depth to the characters we already know and love. Either way, this is a huge win, and well worth the listening time.

A Terrific Testament to a Star Trek and Mr. Nimoy

Leonard Nimoy does an amazing job telling his story and sharing his perspective toward the show in which he starred. Hearing his voice as the story's narrator is itself comforting to me on some level, and the discourse which he maintains between himself as a man and Spock in Character are both eloquent and beautiful.

I would nevertheless be remiss if I did not mention that this book, published in the 90's overlooks one last thing worthy of mention: that Star Trek VI was, while presenting a superb sense of closure for Spock's character, not destined to be his final exit. The reboot of the series would ultimately give Leonard Nimoy one more chance to take his place on the big screen in the 21st century, more than a decade after this book was released.

He would live on to render one of the most incredible performances of his Star Trek career in Star Trek XI as the aging, patriarchal Spock who passes on his wisdom to a younger, different version of himself.

Ultimately, this is a tale of logic blended flawlessly with what it means to be human; of the constant struggle to discover peace, the undiscovered country; of friendship, and of the effort of one man to balance during the course of his life the needs of the many who he touched proportionately alongside the needs of himself, the one who made it all possible.

In the words of the Vulcan: "Fascinating."
