Historia
Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

No “book-joy”
Revisado: 11-17-19
I have only come across very very few books which the movie was better. This one is on the fence. At it is not because the storylines are a bit different, it because the book was too long and droned on to unfold the story it did tell. I have wanted to read (and listen) to this book for many years and now that I have I was a little disappointed.
I really like Stephen King Novels. I own many of them, and although he is somewhat long winded, in this novel it was exasperating! I just could not take the long descriptions and fluff around some of the story. I had to tune off and come back or put the book down and get back to it later. At times was like someone grinding their teeth. It was nerve-wracking!
But the story was great. Learning the backstory to characters was interesting and I enjoyed this story told vs the story told in the movie. I just did not enjoy reading/listening this book. Narration was good. I like Campbell Scott’s voice. No annoying intonations or pauses, it was just getting through all those extra words that was what sucked the pleasure out of my book experience.

Historia
Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Performance killed the story
Revisado: 09-22-19
Although I enjoyed the story I could not get over the voice. In the end author tells us he picked the narrator, I wish had picked someone else. Her voice was grating on my nerves the whole time i listened. I wish someone else had narrated.

John Grisham returns to Ford County, Mississippi, the setting of his immensely popular first novel, A Time to Kill. This wholly surprising collection of stories reminds us once again why Grisham is America's favorite storyteller.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 05-28-15
The stories were of characters we have never met which makes the novel likable and not. I would have liked to have the stories be of the people we already know in Clanton from A Time to Kill but since the stories were enjoyable it's ok.
However, the Author should not read their own stories. Unfortunately, Mr Grisham is not an actor so all the people had the same voice. And his voice even though pleasant is monotonous which makes it hard to listen.
But overall the stories are good.

Historia
For every woman trying to strike that impossible balance between work and home - and pretending that she has - and for every woman who has wanted to hurl the acquaintance who coos admiringly, "Honestly, I just don't know how you do it," out a window, here's a novel to make you cringe with recognition and laugh out loud. With fierce, unsentimental irony, Pearson's novel brilliantly dramatizes the dilemma of working motherhood at the start of the 21st century. Meet Kate Reddy, hedge-fund manager and mother of two.
