Historia
At the end of a long, dark night Detectives Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch cross paths for the very first time. Detective Renée Ballard is working the graveyard shift again and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours only to find that an older man has snuck in and is rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is none other than legendary LAPD detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin. Ballard kicks him out, but eventually Bosch persuades her to help, and she relents.

Spoilt by bad narration
Revisado: 11-05-24
I’ve been working my way through Michael Connolly’s Harry Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer series in sequence but really struggled with this one. The female voice is so grating and lacking in expression I have given up trying to finish the story. Sadly looking ahead to the next books in the series I see the same narrator which disappointingly means I am unlikely to add them to my library. I’m a total audio book junkie as I can ‘read’ whilst doing other things but it appears I may have to revert to paper versions if I want to enjoy the rest of the series.

Historia
Mikael Blomkvist is contacted by renowned scientist Professor Balder. Fearing for his life, but more concerned for his son's well-being, Balder wants Millennium to publish his story. More interesting to Blomkvist than Balder's advances in Artificial Intelligence, is his connection with a certain female superhacker. It seems that Lisbeth Salander, like Balder, is a target of ruthless cyber gangsters that will soon bring terror to the streets of Stockholm, the Millennium team....

Please Please please get a better narrator!!!
Revisado: 07-11-18
It really saddens me to write this review. Audiobooks are part of my daily life. As a long time Audible member my reading experience is almost always rewarding and enjoyable. Unfortunately not this time. I've had this book for months and keep coming back to it as I desperately want to 'read' this book. Every time I manage about 2 chapters and just have to give up because the narration is so poor. I really enjoyed the Millenium Trilogy narrated by the excellent Simon Vance but Saul Reichlin's narration lacks any colour, drama or feeling. The characterizations and implied accents sound very amateurish and the narrative bland and monotone. There is even the occasional background noise. I have given up. I can only hope at some stage the Random House Simon Vance version will eventually be available here.

Is this the End
Revisado: 06-09-13
What made the experience of listening to Phantom: A Harry Hole Thriller, Book 9 the most enjoyable?
The way Nesbo toys with the reader. A conversation, a scene, a character... he leads you masterfully to think one way, who is speaking, who you are looking at, but it is artful misdirection.
What other book might you compare Phantom: A Harry Hole Thriller, Book 9 to and why?
The other Harry Hole novels.
Have you listened to any of Sean Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to Sean Barrett narrating Henning Mankell's Wallender but having listened now of all 9 Hole novels Sean Barrett IS Harry Hole. He captures the flawed, disillusioned Harry as he has aged over since 'The Bat' He has become more world weary with each novel yet you still want him to finally the find peace he dare not hope for.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes but wouldn't that be a spoiler? Rackel waiting at the airport.
Any additional comments?
Jo Nesbo's writing, Don Barlett's terrific translations, and Sean Barretts narration. one hell of a team! Long may you continue and bring on the next HH asap please!

Well written and well narrated
Revisado: 06-09-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, particularly if they have been to Rome or Sardinia
Who was your favorite character and why?
Obviously has to be Zen, tries his best to be high moralled but really just wants an easy life without having to put in too much effort
What about Michael Kitchen’s performance did you like?
It took me a while to get into Kitchens style but have since bought another in the series. It's worth persevering because he is a great fit to Zen's laid back personality.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No I listen while commuting by bus.
Any additional comments?
I look forward to more books in the series but it's disappointing there are gaps. I would like to know why.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-09-13
Would you try another book from Karin Fossum and/or David Rintoul?
Probably not.
If you’ve listened to books by Karin Fossum before, how does this one compare?
This was my first
What didn’t you like about David Rintoul’s performance?
I found the his style irritating. I enjoy his screen performances but constant stress on on the penultimate word in the sentence was annoying.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from In the Darkness?
Not sure
Any additional comments?
On the whole .... disappointing.

Historia
Roger Brown has it all. He's the country's most successful headhunter. He has a beautiful wife and a magnificent house. And to maintain this lifestyle, he's also a highly accomplished art thief. At a gallery opening, his wife introduces him to Clas Greve. Not only is Greve the perfect candidate for a position with one of Roger's high-profile clients, he is also in possession of 'The Calydonian Boar Hunt' by Rubens, one of the most sought-after paintings in the world.

Nesbo's black humour reigns
Revisado: 06-09-13
What made the experience of listening to Headhunters the most enjoyable?
Sean Barretts narration as always is the perfect voice for Nesbo's anti-heros
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Time differential between the deaths in the apartment not being considered seriously by the police was a weak link in the plot.
Have you listened to any of Sean Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes excellent as always.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A slight smile at the end when the twist is revealed.
Any additional comments?
I read this whilst suffering withdrawal symptoms from finishing the last Harry Hole novel 'Phantom' Some of the extreme escapes require the reader to suspend belief but on the whole Another excellent effort from Nesbo and Barrett the perfect team!
