Historia
Toni Murphy was eighteen when she and her boyfriend, Ryan, were wrongly convicted of the murder of her younger sister. Now she is thirty-four and back in her hometown, working every day to forge and adjust to a new life on the outside. She's doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back to prison. But nothing is making that easy – not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who clearly doubts Toni's innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni's life miserable in high school.

Great book!
Revisado: 02-20-23
This book was my introduction to Chevy Stevens. I wasn't disappointed! I was furious throughout this book, at points fuming and ready to leap to the defense of fictional characters. when an author has pulled that kind of emotion from me then , in my opinion, they've done their job well. I was invested in these two main characters so upset at the hand life handed them. I will say, that the story wasn't necessarily slow to start, but at times a little slow to progress...... Or it could have been that I was impatient to finish it, that's possibility also. I actually listened to this on Audible and wasn't really impressed with the narrator but the story itself made up for it. She was just so nasally at times. Otherwise Such a good read.

Didn’t love it didn’t hate it
Revisado: 02-10-23
This was simply an enjoyable YA read. There isn’t really anything spectacular that happens. It’s a cute story that would make a good movie. It’s not something I would reread but I’m not sorry I read it. The narrator do a very good job.

Historia
Former movie star Jenna Hughes left Hollywood for an isolated farm in Oregon to get away from fame. But someone has followed her - an obsessed fan whose letters are personal and deeply disturbing. And while Jenna's already shaken up by what she's seen on paper, she'd be terrified if she knew what Sheriff Shane Carter is investigating. It's a shocking case that started with the discovery of a dead woman in the woods. Now two more women are missing, one of whom bears a striking resemblance to Jenna...

Kept me intrigued
Revisado: 01-24-21
I wasn't as fond of book 2 in this trilogy but this more than met my expectations. I have been thoroughly invested in these characters and their story. This kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to put down. Narrator yet again brought this story to life.

Historia
Detective Angie Pallorino took down a serial killer permanently and, according to her superiors, with excessive force. Benched on a desk assignment for twelve months, Angie struggles to maintain her sense of identity—if she's not a detective, who is she? Then a decades-old cold case washes ashore, pulling her into an investigation she recognizes as deeply personal. Angie's lover and partner, James Maddocks, sees it, too. But spearheading an ongoing probe into a sex-trafficking ring while keeping Angie's increasing obsession with her case in check is taking its toll.

Not as good as the first book
Revisado: 01-14-21
I was invested in the characters from book one. Angie's story was what kept me intrigued throughout this second book. Finding out where she came from and who she was, was the real story. Not that I wasn't wanting justice for the girls. This book took me a while to get through simply because I couldn't get into the story like I did the first. I missed the element of the hunt for a serial killer. The narrator did a fabulous job in bringing the story to life.

Crime thriller meets ghost story
Revisado: 09-08-20
I was surprised to find that this wasn't only a ghost story. The crime aspect fit in quite well. I shudder at the thought of finding myself in the situation that presented itself in the book. Although short this was an enjoyable read. The narrator was a great fit for the story.

A new author for me
Revisado: 08-20-20
This book was my introduction to this author and I wasn't disappointed. The serial killer and the case that surrounds it is not your regular run of the mill type case as were the serial killer themselves. It was intriguing to say the least. I connected well with the characters and the story. The romance involved fit quite well within the storyline. I'll be picking up more books from this author.

3.5 stars
Revisado: 08-20-20
While I did semi enjoy this book, I'm giving it 3.5 stars mainly because of the ending. I thought this had the who-done-it, edge of your seat feel in the beginning. As the story went on the intrigue sort of died and the ending was quite anticlimactic. The characters really didn't have much of a connection --- any of them. Am I sorry I read this? No, but this wouldn't be the Mary Burton book I would suggest to a first time reader.

3.5 stars
Revisado: 08-13-20
While I found In the Barren Ground interesting, I didn't like it as much as I did The Dark Lure and it's sequel. I didn't connect with the characters as much nor do I think that any of them had a connection with each other. The suspense and intrigue were still there along with legends and traditions exclusive to the area in which it's based. The story was good but not one I'll re-read. Having said that the narrator did a great job in bringing the story to life.
