Historia
For centuries, people have speculated about the possibility of planets orbiting distant stars, but only since the 1990s has technology allowed astronomers to detect them. At this point, more than five thousand such exoplanets have been identified, with the pace of discovery accelerating after the launch of NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Satellite Survey and the Webb Space Telescope. In The Little Book of Exoplanets, Princeton astrophysicist Joshua Winn offers a brief and engaging introduction to the search for exoplanets and the cutting-edge science behind recent findings.

Interstellar Examination
Revisado: 01-23-25
This book is both entertaining and a true trek across our side of the Milky Way. It's always a pleasure when an author reads their own book, and that's the case here. A lecturer for years, he speaks clearly, enthusiastically, and above all else informatively. I went into this book with some planetary science knowledge already at hand, but this book was approachable enough that I didn't really need too much of it, and in depth enough that I really expanded my knowledge from it!
In short, Joshua Winn certainly knows what he's talking about, and after he explains it so clearly and intricately in this book, you'll know a lot of it too!

Historia
Dante, Blays, and Gladdic's final effort to defeat him has failed. Within weeks—if not days—Rale will be destroyed. One last hope remains. They can't kill Nolost, but they may be able to eject him from Rale before he can complete his work. To do so, though, they'll have to destroy a world themselves: Olastar, the home of the portals that link all other places together.

Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

Historia
The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air—and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled.

Nostalgic as hell.
Revisado: 11-18-23
As I read through the negative views it made me want to write one for the first time. They completely suck and don't listen to them. I would consider myself a picky reader (but not a critic) and I absolutely love this author's work. I am very happy to continue to see these books reach my ear. Please keep going!

It'll Throw You For A Loop
Revisado: 06-20-23
Tense as hell, gripping throughout, this story will keep rocking you with surprise until the minute you put it down. It's genuinely a great book! I ended up wanting to know more and more about this world that the author had forged, and I'm still left wanting even after the book. It's a great setting for a story, and I hope he does more with it.
I did wish the author had done something different for the epilogue, but that might just be a me thing.

Historia
Where is the best place to find life beyond Earth? We often look to Mars as the most promising site in our solar system, but recent scientific missions have revealed that some of the most habitable real estate may actually lie farther away. Beneath the frozen crusts of several of the small, ice-covered moons of Jupiter and Saturn lurk vast oceans that may have been in existence for as long as Earth, and together may contain more than 50 times its total volume of liquid water. Could there be organisms living in their depths?

Extremely Informative
Revisado: 12-19-22
Academic non-fiction on audible is hard. Current scientific books and works have a tougher time penetrating through to the listener than paper books, which can use figures to help push understanding through. But Alien Oceans does it, and does it well.
Read by the author of the book who is an expert in his field, Alien Oceans will throw you in the deep end, but it keeps the floaties on.

Great Book Told Well
Revisado: 09-19-22
I love this book, and I always have since the first time I read it as a little kid. But what I wasn't expecting was to love the audiobook even more than the ragged paperback version that I lost while moving this year.
Peter Larkin gave a phenomenal performance of this book, and elevated this to a level few audiobooks ever reach by doing such a fantastic job. I love Vernor Vinge and I've read most of what he's written; now I'll have to listen to Peter Larkin and hear what else he's narrated. It's that good.

Historia
All is in turmoil as the world moves towards war. In Solarno, spies eye one another and ready their knives – while the people of Myna watch troops gather at its borders. Emotions run high as old fears reawaken. And in Collegium students argue politics, too late to turn the tide. At the heart of the Empire, new pilots complete their secretive training, generals are recalled to service and armies are readied to march. Their Empress, heir to two worlds, intends to claim her birthright. For nothing – either within the Empire or beyond it – will stand in her way.

The thunderous awe of the first four books is back in force here. Some of the other books up until now felt slower or less consequential, but definitely not this one.
