This was the series as a child that really kickstarted my love of the fantasy genre. Unfortunately, I picked up The Dragons of Deltora first unknowingly, then came back to this original series so was robbed of what I thought was the most amazing plot twist of all time. But now I'm listening to this with my husband, who was never much of a reader and never heard of this series and it still holds up SOOO well. Emily Rodda tells such a compelling story, so rich and varied without prententiousness or desperate need to overly describe; I appreciate it even more now over 20 years later, how well it was written and what an amazing story it was. This is the first book series, and without prior media like movies or shows to fall back on, that my husband has truly taken an interest in. This is still one of my favorite series of all time, and the narration by Ron Haddrick is phenomenol; perfect pacing and a storytelling tone. I am so happy to revisit this series and share it with my husband, and now I'll get to vicariously experience the plot twist 😁😁😁

Loved reading the story so decided to do Audiobook to revisit it on my long commutes. A bit of adjusting to Peter Kenny's style but after listening for awhile, I've decided he is a very good narrator, and this book in English is a pretty difficult one since it's translated and words can be a bit odd. He does bring vibrant life to the characters, and I see he does try to differentiate all the voices as best as he can (which is difficult, there's LOTS of characters that come and go). My only issue is sometimes he hits the accents too hard and when he gets dynamic in volume, he sometimes goes too soft, so the combination results in me missing some words at the tail end of sentences, and repeating on gratingly high volume (which is a bit harsh with his voices). I laughed out loud at his pronunciation of Dandelion lol. But overall, I appreciate his growling Geralt, a great performance of him 💙

Read the books previously, loved the narrator's rendition; perfect emotion, cadence, her voice is really her acting out what happens in each scene. The only "complaint" I have is while I love how her volume goes up and down to drive the story and make it dynamic, her voice occasionally goes too low so that I can't hear what she's saying (I usually listen in the car)

Classic, beautiful story and I absolutely loved Rosamund Pike's rendition 💙 and think it's so cute that she played Jane Bennet in the movie

Loved this story as a child so getting to relive it through audiobooks as an adult is a delight. i'm sad because the cadence of narration by the narrator is good but it's her extra squeaky rendition of elves forces me to give this story less than 5 stars. She hits the make voices a bit hard sometimes which is fine, but the male elves are little and squeaky and it makes me so mad and snaps me out of the storytelling. I was on Chapter 20 and when an elven male spoke right after a kender spoke, the elf had a HIGHER-pitched and shrill voice! And her rendition of Gilthas is also high-pitched, higher than his wife's which is sad. But Chapter 20 I literally gagged out loud from the higher-than-kender voice. Makes me sad.
