Historia
STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

This is well written and reminds me of beneath the dragon eye moon and salvos. The book starts off good but I thought the ending where several chapters were devoted to attending a ball were a chore.

Historia
All the world's a stage...even when you're teleported to a new world. Struggling actress Cara O'Sullivan was walking down the street of Galway one moment, and the next, she was in an ancient tomb in a faraway world. Alone in the dark with her cell phone as her last tenuous connection to home, Cara sings her favorite song. To her astonishment, her song casts a spell of light into the world...and from the depths, something hears her. Challenged by a ghostly knight, a tragic necromancer, and hordes of undead, can a young woman who does not believe in heroes become one herself?

The need to stand in solidarity with Palestinians has never been greater. Ilan Pappe and Noam Chomsky, two leading voices in the struggle to liberate Palestine, discuss the road ahead for Palestinians and how the international community can pressure Israel to end its human rights abuses against the people of Palestine.

Less historical than the description implies
Revisado: 03-17-24
Given the length I was hoping for historical context. Instead it opens with an 1 hour+ meandering rant about one of the authors political beliefs about the current situation in Palestine. Don't rant about how much you hate Israel before explaining what they're doing that made you hate them. Also the way he writes is insufferable and I can't return this book apparently.

Historia
Six months ago, the world watched in horror as we lost an American city. The Grinder. That's what the survivors of Tucson called the monster. Just one touch, and they became a part of it. It used their bodies as limbs and as weapons. In just a matter of hours, it became huge, a towering monstrosity made entirely out of tens of thousands of people and animals.

The narrator's female voices sound like Canadians in South Park. This is likely a reference to the fact that my girlfriend lives in Canada so you wouldn't have met her.

Historia
War has been simmering for generations, but the Legend is about to make the violence boil over. Forces gather from across the continent and even across the world as complex conflicts are forced into narrow categories. For the first time, Tani and her allies have a chance to make a difference, but that will pit them against one of the most dangerous warriors in the world. The Zeitai wants war as much as the Hero, and the result may really be the end of everything. Time is running out, sending everyone scattering in different directions before the final battle.

Historia
Having only recently ascended from your average nobody to what many would consider the pinnacle of humanity, the inexperienced Cat is overwhelmed, to say the least. She’s worried about how her girlfriend, Lucy, will react to the changes, and wonders whether she can use her newfound power and growing influence to care for her “kittens,” a group of orphans in her charge. Meanwhile, as if black-ops assassins and their corporate masters weren’t dangerous enough, the alien Antithesis have infiltrated the mining town of Black Bear.

Historia
Citadel is the only human city on the alien planet Edalide, ruled by the biweekly tides that bring both deadly danger and much-needed resources. But the drowning waters, constant threat of starvation, and eternal cold aren’t the most dangerous challenge. For the Flooded Forest is ruled by demons: monsters from Hell sent by their vengeful god as penance for their ancestors’ rebellion. To save their souls and return to their former glory, Citadel must kill every single one. Or so they believe.

surprisingly... unwoke
Revisado: 11-07-23
So given the description and the author being a "feminist YouTuber" I assumed this would be fairly progressive, but it ended up being kind of a generic neoliberal YA book.
First, the blurb says that the main character realizes the demons are sentient (which means can feel emotions), which is wrong. She figures out they are "intelligent" enough for their lives to be meaningful to her. It's established that everyone knew the demons were sentient, since they could be tortured, and the main character is ok with killing sentient creatures, since she kills animals. The story is about really how their lives are actually valuable because they are "intelligent enough", based on some arbitrary standard the author sets. Similarly, the protagonist is important despite her disability because she is also very intelligent. Overall a weird take for a book about disabled people if you think about the implications for a second.
Besides that the author shoehorns in a bunch of America specific issues despite the setting being an isolated theocratic city state. Anything related to our global late stage capitalism doesn't make sense, like the housing crisis or "meat and cheese" being poor people food. Generally I think the author just reasoned that "more patriarchy = more of all the bad things" instead of any other systemic economic or societal issues.
Besides that the book is... ok. The dialogue is bad. The setting is interesting. The characters that aren't walking strawmen are good. I could see why other people like it.
