Historia
Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore who just wrote the world’s first comprehensive encyclopedia of faeries. She’s learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Ones on her adventures . . . and also from her fellow scholar and former rival Wendell Bambleby. Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. He’s an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother and in search of a door back to his realm.

Amazing!
Revisado: 08-18-24
Absolutely love this series! This was just as good as the first. I love Emily and Wendell’s dynamic, Shadow, Poe, and some new characters we meet along the way. The narrator is absolutely fantastic too—does a great job not just wish Emily’s voice, but Wendell’s and the other characters too. And like the first, we get a chapter from Wendell’s perspective and that narrator did a wonderful job as well. Highly recommend, and I can’t wait for the third book!

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Revisado: 02-11-23
I read/listen to this book at least once a year, it’s so good! It has some darker themes to it, but I honestly find it to be extremely heartwarming. I want to be friends with Eleanor and Raymond! The narrator does a fantastic job as well.

Historia
Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

The fantasy novel you’ve always wished Jane Austen had written. When Jane realizes that one of Melody’s suitors is set on taking advantage of her sister for the sake of her dowry, she pushes her skills to the limit of what her body can withstand in order to set things right—and, in the process, accidentally wanders into a love story of her own.

Disappointed in narrator
Revisado: 02-16-21
I’ve read this book (and series) before and loved it—I thought it would be fun listening to it with the author as narrator. That was a big mistake! I don’t care for who she voiced men, I don’t care for how she made all women except for Jane seem simple and stupid, and her mostly American with a few fake sounding British words thrown in accent drove me up a wall! I’ll stick to rereading these in book form.

Historia
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned. As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. But when Lou pulls a wicked stunt, the two are forced into an impossible situation - marriage. Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice. And love makes fools of us all.

Revisado: 08-27-20
I love this story, and I really like Julia Whelan as a narrator in general. Except in this instance, I didn’t like how she voiced Niklas—I think it would have been better to get a male narrator for that point of view.
